Hi Laura,

As far as I know all surgeons irrespective of the type of surgery being performed require a HIV test but I may be wrong. However I would think that as far as FFS surgeons are concerned, it is mandatory as it's pretty invasive surgery. I know that I had to provide Facial Team with a result before my operation at the beginning of April.

Facial Team in Marbella. Spain are reasonably priced and are not too far away from you.

But it is essential to browse the many posts in this forum, don't believe everything you hear, have consultations either in person or by Skype, meet (if you can) various surgeon's post-op patients and then make an informed choice.

Good luck in your journey.

Hugs

And if you were positive they would not do the FFS???? I think this is not fair

Good question Laura.

You would have to ask the various surgeons you talk to.

I do know of surgeons not necessarily FFS surgeons who operate on patients who are HIV + and obviously take suitable precautions.

I would think that all surgeons would require HIV testing prior to surgery so that they can provide the best care for the patient during surgery, and also to the ensure the safety of the surgical team, as their are incidents of getting cuts from the patient's bone(s), secondary cuts from scalpels, secondary needle sticks, etc.

For FFS i think some clinic will do it Facial team has no problems with that
I only heared dr Suporn for SRS wont even shake hands with HIV or other disasse patient
( so in my opinion this is then not a docotor) everyone deserve to be treated as human beeing i can imagine hiv plus person has it more harder then we do and many transgender girls are hiv positive
i wish you all the best laura

And I am not implying that there aren't any surgeons who will accept HIV positive patients, but I would think that they would want to know so that they can take precautionary measures. And I really do not know why you feel that HIV testing is "bad for your soul" I think it would be worse for someone's soul if they were HIV positive and infected a bunch of people, because they did not want to be responsible and have a simple blood test.

Glad you said that !  It is almost inconceivable that this discussion is even taking place.

Excellent post Kittenpower! Not wanting to know if you are positive is an irresponsible attitude and risky for your own health and the health of those who could result  infected by you.

I don't think pre surgical testing is only about doctors wanting to take precautionary measures for themselves, because they take them anyway for every surgery, they always avoid contact with patients body fluids. I think it is rather about knowing the viral load of the person they are going to operate on because the higher the viral load is, the lower the strength to resist a very invasive surgery like FFS becomes, so it is the patient who would need extra precautionary measures to survive the surgery and recover well.
