I want to get started removing my facial hair and I have a LOT. I want to buy a tria, or a lumina or something that will rid me of it. Anyone have successful facial hair removal experience with these DIY technologies? (or other brands you can recommend)

Thank you for any help, I'm feeling a bit desperate these days.

Many moons ago I tried two do-it-yourself electrolysis kits at home, and frankly put, it was a waste of money and time. It was akin to building a robot, and even then you still needed a doctorate in chemistry to keep moving forward.

In my opinion, you'll always get what you pay for, so I would recommend finding someone who can do it professionally. The biggest question will be the type of hair you have and the color: Is it dark or light? Is it coarse or smoother?

Depending on the type of your facial hair, you may need full blown electrolysis or you can get by with a lot less painful method of laser treatment. The laser will cost you more, but ultimately it's going to depend on your hair type and color.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll do my best to answer.

I've been using a Philips Lumea on my arms for the last 4 months. It has had some effect, with a patchy reduction of the dark hairs. I know many members here use the Tria as it's Laser not IPL like the Lumea. They do models of the Lumea with adapters for facial use.

I have the one with the three attachments and I've been using it for about the same time as you.

It's worth pointing out that the facial attachment is only for women. The manual clearly states that men's facial hair is too coarse for it.

Regarding the effectiveness of things. I do my body in patches to space out healing time in case there are any negative skin effects (there aren't, but I'm just cautious!). So that means doing lower legs every two weeks on one evening, doing upper legs & groin/bum on another evening, chest to pelvis on another evening, hands and feet another evening, etc..

The reduction on my hands and feet is very good as I staggered the starting points so they were first. My lower legs were started next, and they are about 80% clear after regrowth. Pretty much the same for my upper legs too. I did my chest recently, so I'm unsure how clear it is, but judging by the burnt ends, I'd say about 60% clear.

And I just went for laser consultation today. Starting it on my face properly on Wednesday, so don't know how well it will go, but not expecting any trouble to be honest, as the test patch isn't even red right now and it was done about four hours ago.

The way I see it, the face is too important to risk doing yourself. See a professional and make sure they're good at what they do and it should end up a positive experience. The last thing you want is something to go wrong and for you to end up further back than when you started!

I got laser on my face, I figured it was the bit worth getting done by professionals, and is also the part least effected by HRT.
