Sirwan and Karwan were both born male but now identify as women. They fled the Kurdish part of Iraq, where their families wanted to kill them. But will Sweden let them stay?
Erbil is a pretty liberal place by Middle Eastern standards, but it's not exactly San Francisco. And for two little boys who acted like girls, life was hell.
A mother's love
"I was always in danger. Mostly I was bullied and harassed, but I was also raped several times," Sirwan tells The Local.
People spat at her and wondered if she didn't have brothers or a father to kill her. "
