What is type 3 reconstruction?

Its a procedure commonly used in FFS to remodel the forehead. A crutial aspect is removal of frontal sinus wall, which is then appropriately remodeled and placed back in the new position. The bone around it is shaved down. It is named "type3" because dr. Ousterhout (who introduced this technique into facial feminization) lacked a better sense for naming things.

FFS Support was great, I did all my research there 13 years ago.

But the sad part is this once awesome group is virtually dead now due to Yahoo destroying this and their other groups with the new 'Neo' format, which has been universally slated.

Any information on there is now getting out of date and hardly anybody answers anymore.

So Susan's Place is the best place to be, I consider now.

You will have a rather short list of surgeons to choose from if you will consider only those two who have gone through recognized craniofacial fellowship.

I'd love to go to Dr S as he is closest to me, but I've heard he isn't aggressive enough and I need major bony work so I don't think he'd be good enough for me. I have type 3 forehead and am not sure if he can fix it to my liking.

I can attest from my FFS training for 5 years with Dr. Spiegel that we performed Type 3 Forehead on almost every patient.  The only instances that we didn't was because the patient didn't have a frontal sinus which occurs in 10-15% of the general population.  Having a frontal sinus cavity is a prerequisite to performing a Type 3 forehead.  A type 3 forehead is also known as an osteoplastic flap procedure and allows maximal setback of the forehead and preserves the thickness and integrity of the forehead bone.   If you went to Dr. Spiegel, I can say with high certainty that he would perform a Type 3 and be as aggressive as you desire within the limits of safety.

I would like to thank Dr Keojampa for taking active part in those discussions. He obviously finds time to take an active part at susan's. I think that we all need to see some before and afters of his work. Always great to have more doctors practicing transgender medicine.

I agree, it's nice for a surgeon who specializes in ffs to take their time to post on the boards. Before/afters are the most important way to get customers/prospective patients. Would be nice to see a link to an official website with some. It's not so easy to get patients to agree to published photos because of privacy issues, but you'll always find some ladies who are okay with it.

Yup! I really want to see more before/after photos but can't really find that many. I know there's some on the individual surgeon's websites, but I would really like to be able to see (a library of) images supplied more objectively. That would be amazingly resourceful.

Well, with privacy laws surgeons can't just provide these images.  They need a release from the patient.

That's a good point! I meant more images from consenting patients, uploaded by themselves.
