Has anyone transitioned after 22 and did it work out even though you where older?
I ask because I've just been thinking about somethings i don't really want to discuss or know how
but i'm just wondering if transitioning older has worked out just the same as if you did it younger.
I ask because someone once told me 23 was best bet because of bone growth stopping around that age,
and to transition as soon as possible.

There are many, many, many trans men who have transitioned  successfully after that age and older.

Just curious, do you know of anyone celeb or anyone who has transitioned when they where older?
I'd  like to look it up.

Chaz Bono is the only celeb I know of.

A friend of mine transitioned around the age of 25 or 26 and he's doing great some 6 or so years later.

Thanks, and that's good to hear i sort of figured but i wanted to actually see because i always see people transition younger i guess. And i worry a lot.

I think you'll find, especially in the past, that the majority of people transitioned in their later 20s, 30s, 40s... many still do. Age isn't a barrier to transition, in some cases it can even work better.

I had the same worry because the media only focuses on people who transition in their teens  >:(. While I'm sure most still medically transition after 20. There are 1 or 2 people on here who are much older than you and I and have begun taking T; which stops me from worrying so much. I've heard bone growth can stop around 22/23 but I think this is a rarity. Most people have their growth plates fused by 18. Because I started T at 21(even though it was late 21) I still hoped I'd grow an extra inch; but so far; no such luck  ::). Although I've heard that T can do something to the muscles which might make you very slightly taller so still hoping for that.

There was a thread on here about if taking T works slower if you're older but I don't think there's much in it. Taking T at any age will produce the same effects :)

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year there is Caitlyn Jenner, 66, who recently transitioned.

If your focus is celebs, there will be very very few. Celebs certainly do not represent the norm. There was a day, until a decade or so ago that the far majority of transitioners were older, as in 40-50. I suspect the mean age is still up there, but that's a wild guess

Although he doesn't say so specifically I presume Midnight is primarily thinking of trans men transitioning after 22. :)

There are a quite a few trans men on youtube, I think Aydian Dowling was in his early twenties when he transitioned, and FinnTheInfincible (UK ftm on youtube) was 38, Charles Asher has been on YT for ages, though i'm not sure how old he was when he started out

I don't really pay attention to the News or TV i know about Caitlyn jenner but i didn't know about her until last year maybe. But i didn't know how old she was either. I'm ftm though, so i often look around more for ftm who transitioned when older its something i just haven't found or heard about much. But i haven't looked around a lot either just sometimes here and there.

I started transitioning at 25 and will be completely done by 28. I don't think waiting negatively impacted my masculinization at all. You can look through my Instagram if you want before/after pictures.

Testosterone is a pretty hardcore hormone. It will do it's job no matter how old you are. What you have to remember is that you're essentially inducing a second puberty in your body, so the older you are, the more strange this will appear to others. It seems plausible and understandable that at 18-22 a person is still undergoing some lingering effects of puberty. It's a little tougher for guys who are 30+ to go through that all over again at their age group. It may make passing a bit tougher initially.

You are probably past the point where you could make any different in your height. But it really isn't something to worry about. I'm 5'5" and never get comments about it.

Something to think about if you decide to transition later is that hormones, although they still work very well, take longer to come into full function. Also, your assigned gender body will likely already he fully developed so you would have more ground to make up.

My favorite YouTuber is electricdade. He started his transition at 29. He's now 4 years in and had since stopped making videos, but he looks cis to me. I wouldn't be able to tell if I didn't already know. To be fair though, he looked pretty masculine before he started.

For a trans guy, try looking up Alexander James Adams he is a folk/filk musician who spent decades performing at ren fairs and conventions as Heather Alexander before transition. Some of his music even has mostly hidden transgender themes in it.

Thanks for the Finntheinvicable tip.

I am 33 and just in the process of finally starting to accept and like myself as I am. I Identified as a lesbian for so long I didn't know this was still possible for me, the massive gaps in memory from childhood along with what I know now has been a persistent dysphoria issue as the cause of anxiety, depression and a case of PTSD. Odd because I realize now that I was basically half transitioned for a while but not admitting it to myself. Just dipping my toes in the water and plotting this whole thing out as for how to move forward from here.

I have had the same questions about T and age, But I have read as long as your healthy and already well past your (female) puberty the results are similar as long as you take care of yourself and are compliant with the regimen.
