Your advice on best surgeon for my Thailand orchiectomy

Hi everyone,

I've decided to go ahead with my orchiectomy. I have taken quotes from a variety of clinics and doctors and am extremely keen to have any responses to the following shortlist. I am, essentially, sick and tired of pumping high levels of toxic chemicals into my system.

Yes I do indeed want GRS in due course but I cannot afford it now and the waiting list in the UK will be long. I know that a prior orchie is not ideal for scrotal tissue but I will live with those consequences.

I don't want cost to be the factor but I have ruled out one clinic which was a lot more expensive. All of these are within an acceptable range of one another although I will say that Dr Chet's is the most competitive of the three.

If you're considering Dr Supon later for SRS, I believe they have some instructions on how the orchi must be done if you want SRS with him. Do it the wrong way and he won't have you.

Thanks AnonyMs. Yeah, I left him off the shortlist for that reason. I just wondered if anyone thought differently but that thread has confirmed what I thought.

Good point about Dr Suporn: I will contact him on that point, thank you. I guess there's a good chance that I will stick with the same Dr for the full GRS or the cosmetic version if I go for that.

Dr Suporn won't perform orchiectomies

If you're considering Dr Supon later for SRS, I believe they have some instructions on how the orchi must be done if you want SRS with him. Do it the wrong way and he won't have you.

Basically, you can't have scrotal skin removed. He also wants to make sure you have enough donor material, so if you are going to have srs, sooner is better than later due to atrophy.

I would recommend stretching the skin periodically to prevent it from shrinking. I'm scheduled with Dr. Suporn and I had an orchiectomy a little over a month ago. My skin has healed together well and when I was reasonably confident I wouldn't cause damage, I started stretching it. That seems to help break up scar tissue and thin the skin out.

I thought I read somewhere once that they can insert plastic balls into the scrotum but no-one seems to mention it these days.

That's true, but then what would be the point of getting an orchi?

Because it eliminates the need to take anti androgens pending full GRS which I'll either get through the NHS or when I can afford it. I'm having a bad, bad, time of it with the meds

That would be Testicular Implants. I believe FTM's get them as well as cis-men in need.

Well WOW WOW WOW big moment for me on my path to transition. I've just reserved a space for my orchiectomy at the end of next month. I'd love to have the full GRS but I cannot afford it right now and so I'm doing this in two stages: removing the androgen source at its root.

I will ask them at PAI about the stretching etc. I intend to get the full GRS within 18-24 months latest and I'm not massively worried about depth although I admit things are changing for me. Originally I wondered about a cosmetic vagina but I now really want a full one.

That is correct, but they generally won't do that unless you have cancer. For the simple orchi, I guess most people get local anesthesia, but because mine was medically necessary (pain down there for a couple months), they used general anesthesia and was covered by insurance. I would have rather had full srs, but it would have been too long to wait in pain. It did however spur me to get srs scheduled.

Wow, thanks for sharing that Melissa. I'm glad it worked out for you and you got it done quickly to stop the pain.

In Thailand all the major clinics who perform orchie do so under General Anaesthetic not local. I'm going to ask my team about that again but guess I will just go with it. If they're happier to do it under GA then that's okay by me.

I think, like you, this is going to spur me on to the full works
