My new years resolution was to get my transition in gear, and so far it's been a nightmare financially, but I am working at it.  Question is though. How do I come out to work?

What worked for you guys?

What did you say or do?

Did you send a letter to HR?

Does anyone have advice?

Hi miadoodle,

I would contact your manager or HR, and inform him/them, that you w'll come as xyz to work after the day X... Maybe your employer has already experience and they know what's the best about informing the others and stuff like that...

I have not come out at work yet.  I work for a very light friendly company so I'm not really concerned.  But my plan is to tell 5 close friends at work and swear them to silence.  Then when I can't hide it any more I'll tell HR.  I don't want to make a big deal out of it.  Eventually I'll tell my peers and then let it spread that way.

I had a lot of weight to loose before I wanted to start HRT, I updated my wardrobe to women's clothes as I lost the weight adding different items over time I did not have any male clothes left after a few months. I was wearing blouses and jeans for awhile then I started to bring my purse to work, month later ears pierced etc. I was hoping that as I did the slow transformation in front of everyone that people would transition with me and see the woman that I am. It worked to a point most people were not surprised when I made it official. Took a little over two years to loose the weight I gave my self rewards at different milestones along the way like getting ears pierced when I got below 225 lbs. Now after having lost 208 lbs I weigh 179 and have been officially out about  year and half at work. Everyone noticed how much happier and social I am, some of the women told me they did not really know me before and now that they do they like me more  now. Sure there are some folks that dont undersatnd and do not want too try, I still treat them like everyone else, hold my head high, smile and keep being me.

My plans are to tranition slowly, and quietly. I have started changing my apperence with growing out my hair, then I pierced my ears, and started dying my hair, all the while dropping a lot of weight I am down 58 pounds since Jan. 1st. When I can no longer hide it, I will go to H.R. and inform them. I am hoping by doing it this way, it won't be quite a shock to my co-workers. By the way, h.r.t. starts Wednesday, I believe, waiting for lab work to return.
