Judge: Transgender California Inmates Must Get Female Items

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/judge-transgender-california-inmates-female-items-39742554

ABC News/y DON THOMPSON, ASSOCIATED PRESS SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jun 9, 2016, 9:11 PM ET

"California prison officials must let transgender inmates have more female-oriented commissary items including nightgowns, robes, sandals, scarves and necklaces as part of a settlement that will make California the first state to pay for an inmate's sex reassignment surgery, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

Aside from providing the surgery for 56-year-old Shiloh Quine, the state agreed in August to provide some items to transgender inmates such as Quine who are housed in men's prisons.

The proposed policy doesn't go far enough, ruled U.S. Magistrate Judge Nandor Vadas. He said transgender inmates housed in men's prisons should have many of the same items as are provided to female inmates."

Good. Treating transgender women or men as their opposite gender is cruel and IMO shifts from serving a jail sentence to serving a torture sentence.

This is super good news. I am legally female gender on my United States Passport.

Genuine trans ladies who must serve prison terms should be able to serve their sentences in female prisons, as is often done in the UK.

If I were ever to be housed in a male jail or prison for more than a few days, and denied my female hormones and female clothing and likely facing daily threat of rape as I am quite feminine and beautiful, I would probably instead simply do my own suicide by hanging myself from the prison bedsheets as one a British trans female inmate placed in a male prison in England did last year.

Most people don't understand how serious as issue this is. At least California now does in the United States. I would prefer to kill myself rather than not be able to have my female hormones and live female in prison.

I have expressed these sentiments in some online places previously and I have met a lot of controversy for doing so. TBH I don't really understand why. This issue of what happens to trans female prisoners in male prisons should be transparent and see the clear light of day, as a matter of MORAL SOCIAL POLICY.

Not swept under the rug, leading to more actual suicides such as the one I mentioned above that occurred in 2015 near Leeds, England. I can dig up the name if you like. She was a beautiful girl. She deserved to be in prison, yes. But she sure the heck didn't deserve to be in a MALE prison without female hormones or female clothes.

I will kill myself just like she did if I am ever faced with this situation. This is not a farfetched scenario either.

I better not enter North Carolina and pee in a public restroom. Because I could very well end up in a male prison and therefore do my own suicide. This is a serious issue for me and many other trans people contemplating entering a state with current laws such as North Carolina.
