Question about the way Nebido/Aveed is injected

So from what I know from Nebido/Aveed, you get a large dosage once every 10 - 12 weeks, and you go to a clinic for a nurse to inject it into you. It's injected into your buttocks, and then most (if not all) clinics require you to stay for 30 minutes to make sure you're alright.

Here's the thing: couldn't the buttock injections, with such a big needle too, potentially be dangerous? Couldn't it hit (even if the chances are slim) your sciatic nerve? Is that why the clinics require you to stay there?

I know I'm probably super ignorant, but it's simply something that has confused me for a bit.

Hi,

Are you US based, and if so, have you checked with your intended doctor to be sure that they will administer Aveed? Nebido is not available in the United States, and AFAIK Aveed is usually a by-request-only type of deal. I go to a large LGBT clinic and it is not available even by request here.

You can have the injection done in the thigh or the butt. The needle size used is actually the same size as what I use for regular testosterone cypionate. If done in the correct spot on the butt, there is no risk to hitting the sciatic nerve. Especially if it's done by a professional who injects patients there often. You'd be more likely to hurt yourself doing it, but even still - from what I understand if you divide the cheek into quadrants and stay in the top outermost one, you should be fine.

As far as the wait, it is not related to injection site pain. With Nebido and Aveed they are looking for signs of pulmonary oil embolism. These long-acting forms of T contain castor oil. If the castor oil travels to the lungs, it can cause coughing, difficulty breathing, sweating, chest pain, dizziness, and fainting. They are also looking for allergic reactions. It's much better for any of these things to happen in a doctor's office than once you've left, gotten into your car, and started driving.

Wow, weird coincidence, I was just coming on here to see what other people had to say about the 12 week Nebido injection after getting my first one today. Right into the butt. And boy does it hurt :P Had it done by a doctor so absolutely no chance of it hitting the sciatic nerve. She made sure I stayed around for twenty minutes afterwards as well. She made sure to inject it very slowly though, thankfully, and even though it didn't hurt when the needle went in, eleven hours later and it's still stinging every time I move. Being intramuscular it is going to hurt, but I'd rather four injections a year compared to gel every night (which is what I was on but apparently it took three years for them to realise it wasn't getting my levels high enough -_-)

I wouldn't say Nebido injections are painful, they're just extremely uncomfortable. There's so much stuff that goes in that it creates a lot of pressure inside the muscle. I would probably be crippled for days if it was injected quickly but my fiancée is good at taking it slow (minute per milliliter).
And I get my shots in my butt, the upper outer quarter or whatever. Medical terms in English aren't my strong area. :D A friend of mine who's a practical nurse taught her to inject and so far it's been all good. Once she accidentally grazed a nerve or something but my guess is it wasn't the sciatic nerve because it was just a momentary sensation. :P
