At the time of my GP writing a referral letter for me last month, I'd read online that the waiting list for the Leeds GIC was by far the worst in the UK at three years, but I've just received a confirmation today that it's now "approximately"
four years! My only hope now is that I'll be able to get a bridging appointment, which is likely considering that my regular doctor is also a qualified and practicing psychologist who fully understands my concerns, including very serious worries for my physical safety as someone who needs all the help they can with passing - especially as I would like to begin presenting as female sooner rather than later for my own mental health. On the other hand, I'm reluctant to ask about what options may be available too early, since I'd hate to be seen as impatient. While I'm certainly not attacking those within the service itself (because I anticipate them doing a great job once I finally begin having frequent appointments), I just can't believe the powers that be think making patients put their lives on hold this long is improving anything, despite what their letterhead claims. If only I had the financial means to go private...
