Is Freddie Lounds from Hannibal (TV series) trans?

My girlfriend got me totally hooked on Hannibal. I think the TV series is WAAAAY better than the movies. Anthony Hopkins ain't got nothing on Mads Mikkelsen! So anyway, my gf says that Freddie Lounds is trans, yet I just finished season 2 and so far the show mentions nothing of the sort. The only thing I can come up with is the fact that Freddie is played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in Red Dragon. Any spoiler-free insights?

No, the character isn't trans. They just recast the role into a female one for the series. I agree the series is way better than the Anthony Hopkins movies. Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy do a great job with the roles, and the cinematography and writing is better, too.
