So hey guys, its starting to draw nearer to the date I have set to get a haircut. Im excited and thinking about it nonstop, also a little nervous because changing my haircut to something shorter is something I cant fathom, always been scared of change, but Im kind of sick of medium length hippie hair so change is good.

My preference is not super short, I do like thicker and longer hair but in a shorter cut, I have examples of what Im thinking in this album Im going to post:

Here's what I look like for reference

Heres a pic I took now, I hate the way my hair looks when its dry and not slicked back or made to look shorter, thats what I want to change

I know its silly to ask since the decision is ultimately mine but I really would like some outside advice as well

You look like you've been on T for years; wish I looked like you :P. For me personally i don't really like the hairstyles you're looking at... They don't look 'current' (I know the whole concept of what's in fashion is silly but for choosing a hairstyle it's necessary in order to look closer to your age). And they look more like the kinda thing women tend to get.

For me personally I like the undercut style as it's very masculine and has many different variations. Here's some styles to give you an idea

They/them pronouns preferred.

Exciting! I looked at your album and it looks great to me. I think you just need to decide for yourself how short you want to go. Good thing is hair grows. I don't know if you followed my tale from a couple weeks ago about me cutting my long hair... I went to a barber (one who caters to trans folks) but even he went more for a standard men's cut and took off more than I wanted. So I suppose my word of warning is to consider a hair stylist who is bit more versatile if you're going for longer... and bring lots of pics.

After a couple weeks, I'm much more used to shorter hair on me, even if it's not quite what I imagined... it does feel a lot more like me now. And I'm proud of myself for doing it. Doing it was the toughest part. As for styles, I've played around with it at home and will go to a stylist for the second round.

Oh! Haha! I must not be very current then, had no idea what was really, we must have different tastes. I did see plenty of 'sideswept/undercut' type styles in my search and those interested me very little, not my thing.

I do however share a keen spot on the last one linked, I quite like the transition from buzzcut to longer hair at the top (one of my pictures I linked was that way). Will keep in mind. I appreciate your opinion and outlook, though

...and gosh, thanks for the compliment. Its so strange knowing I havent been on long and people say I pass. I still dont quite see it sometimes I seriously think the hair will improve my self image

I feel like I jumped back into being a bit more active on this forum so Id say I was almost front and center to that saga :P and thats a good reminder to have, which is why Im ultimately not too freaked out on the haircut dilemma

Cheers Hughie, thanks for the support

I think you'd pass with pretty much any of those styles, so it really depends on which one you like best and how long you want to take styling it.

But as Hughie said be prepared for the stylist to cut your hair different even with pictures. I always have pictures of the haircut from multiple angles, and now that I've had the same haircut for awhile I even tell them the lengths for it, but it looks different every time I get it cut. It's really been bad the last couple of times, but thankfully my hair grows fast.

:D You're welcome.

And judging from your pics, you pass already, so I think it's whatever your heart desires when it comes to styles. I even told the barber three-four inches on the top and showed him where to cut on my hair and he still did his own thing especially from the top to the back. I think he wanted to do an undercut/shaved thing too. It looks great on some folks, but I don't think it's me either. I was thinking today why not, and maybe it's because most of the undercuts I've seen don't have fringe, or are slicked back. I have way too much forehead as is, and for myself I prefer the long fringe. I think I just like longer hair in general.

But the fun thing with hair is that it's easy enough to experiement and change around. When I got home and messed around after the barber's, it looked pretty different after the slicked back look he gave me.

ETA: Oh, the other thing is that some of the shaved styles etc are a lot of maintenance... either you need to do the shaving yourself or go quite often to get it dealt with. I wanted something that would be a bit more forgiving if I went every 4-8 weeks rather than 2-4 weeks.
