WPATH Standards, Letters, and continuity...

So, I'm not going to lie...  I'm a little burned out on research on the infamous letters for surgery.  My situation is that I see a different headshrinker every 4 to 6 months, issues with being seen at a "Teaching Hospital"...  So I will pose the question for anyone that might know...  Is there going to be an issue having been seen for so little time by psychologists, and psychotherapists?  Heck... even my endochronologist and my primary care provider swap out quite frequently.  The additional kicker, is it going to become an issue that they are considered "fellows"?

I don't think you'll have any issues as long as your patient file includes enough documentation so that whoever ends up writing your letters can effectively reference earlier material that they may not have been a part of. And as long as they have the right credentials, their letters should be usable. I would just make it be known to the person you're currently seeing that the plan is surgery so that they can start denoting related things in your file to make it easier for the ultimate letter writer.

I didn't need a letter for HRT.

I had a single letter from a Master's level therapist for chest reconstruction. We met online for 3 sessions before he had enough material to write it.

I had a letter from my primary care doctor detailing my HRT history plus a letter cosigned by a therapist and psychiatrist working in the same practice, all in WPATH's format. I had one session each with the therapist and psychiatrist before receiving their letter.

Thank you so much.  I will relay it to my doctors prior to their next change out.  I have 3 of them changing out in the next 4 weeks.  They're all still fellows, so I'll make sure that they have enough time to react prior to their "graduation".  My only other course would have been to try and get their attending to see me instead...  and boy that would have been a pain in the butt!  Lol...  I like the students anyway...  they're a lot more easy going and fun.  They haven't had a chance to be jaded yet. Ha ha ha ha ha...

It shouldn't be issues as long as they are capable of writing the letters and up to date on the standards required it shouldn't be ann issue. Hugs

If you're getting the resident roulette, ask to assigned to an "attending" physician as they generally are the ones responsible for the med students, residents and fellows who come and go in the system......

I wonder if a letter from 20 years ago would still be valid ... if I found a way to pay for SRS.
