I have used it since the beginning and have been happy with everything. But I can't compare what it might have been like without it.

I was lucky with my NP.  She simply asked me on the first visit if I wanted to add it.

I used estrogen alone for years and have great results given my Pre-Jurasaic age. When I added P even a low dose gave me back that "Just Started" feeling. After about a year my wife started getting on my case more and more over my boobs showing (I live and present primarily as male) in tops she had no issue with in the past. So maybe I did go from an almost B to a for real B?

The biggest contributing factor of Micronized Progesterone in my own experience is just the overall quality of my hormone therapy regimen. I have noticed that I sleep much better, boobs are a bit swollen, mood is more stable and I tend not to retain much water on it. I have only taken it quite recently and did not start P until almost 2 years into my hormone therapy.

I hope this helps. Also, there's a big difference between synthetic and micronized bio identical P. Hope you are on the latter.

I recently read on this forum that one should wait at least a year of HRT before taking P, have no idea why, anyone heard of that and what would be the thinking behind it?

I added synthetic P (can't afford the bio) in March and I... stopped it, I suspect that is what lowered drastically my E level at my last blood test, or the dosage was too high... I'll see my doctor on Sept. 9 and try to figure this out with her.

It did do something to my breasts though, they're smoother, my nipples aren't full erect all the time anymore  :D and maybe they grew more, but most certainly are better shaped now.

Now that I stopped P (well medroyprogesterone), I realize it was adding like a weight on me, I feel lighter (my mind) now

Long time, no see and congratulations on your first step.

I am currently on estradiol alone and my treatment plan will not include progesterone. There has been a debate over progesterone for over 35 years as to it's need in transitioning and it seems nobody can provide a conclusive reason one way or another. I was on a synthetic progesterone years ago as it was all that was available at the time and I didn't really notice any difference between taking it or not. See what your doctors view on it is and don't worry if you remain on estradiol without progesterone because development will still take place.

Better watch out. That isn't normal growth and you may be bursting out of your shirts shortly if you aren't careful.

So progesterone basically helps with breast development while estrogen helps with butt and legs fat redistribution. It's the hormone that regulates much of the breast function as well. It also plays a role in uterus health and its absence triggers shedding the endometrium. As far as we're concerned it works pretty well and will help your breasts develop. But there's a downside - progesterone is what causes mood swings in women. I was on something called medroxy progesterone which is synthetic I'm told, and it was not the greatest. Granted my doctor had me on it ALL the time but they took me off of it when I started to develop behavioral problems. It is extremely potent and you will likely be much more emotional while on progesterone. I would recommend working out a cycling plan with your doctor as most women here seem to think it works very well as it mimics the cycle of functional ovaries.

It may work differently for everyone but progesterone is an androgen like testosterone. It can actually lead to masculinization as some of it becomes testosterone like as it breaks down, but naturally blockers help with this. Oftentimes doctors will dismiss it as something that you don't need because of the absence of the uterus, I think it's standard procedure for them to be dismissive about it when it comes to transwomen as it was like pulling teeth to get it from my first doctor and the next two after him really wanted me off of it.

Female hormones aren't an all in one deal like testosterone though, and having 2 hormones has led to important responsibilities being divided up quite a bit and some that testosterone doesn't even cover! Progesterone helps prevent breast cancer (and transwomen on HRT tend to be at risk), it helps prevent osteoporosis, heart problems (also at risk for these), and brain function as well. It IS important and will become more so after bottom surgery. I'd recommend researching the benefits for about a half hour and then head in for an appointment to talk to your doctor about it.
Trying to take it one day at a time :)

My endocrinologist has not responded well to my desire to try P, she's pretty conservative and I think I'm gonna have to force the issue.

Definitely force it. I've had 3 doctors for HRT and it's been the same thing. Once you're on it she will probably try to take you off of it every time.

i added prometrium to my regimen 3 months ago and honestly speaking i have not experienced any of the great effects many others have claimed anecdotally. it did absolutely nothing for my boobs except give me a pouch on my tummy and make me EAT LIKE A COW 24/7. i have a doctor's appointment tmrw so i'll check if i can get a higher dose because she prescribed me the standard dosage. after this run, if im not getting anything i'll cut it out since it's not covered by my insurance.
My life doesn't exist in this lifetime.

Since adding Progesterone - Prometrium, in the spring i have perceived:

Fuller rounder breasts - i can feel more tissue - projection is just as much, they just are fuller if that makes sense.
Even better sleep quality then before
Slighly increased sex drive
No return to any skin oiliness - which is a potential issue
Periodic breast pain - alway have some of this with HRT - but at times lately it can be quite an ache
Ravenous appetite - i really have to record everything i eat and concentrate on bulky vegetables and the like to feel satisfied.
Further loss of body hair - although this may be just the estrogen effects kicking in over time.

Your mileage may vary.
