So, I went into town today while my son had his contact with his (bio) mother. I wore my binder, and was packing. Wanted to see if I could pass IRL. The optician didn't call me anything gendered but directed me towards the female frames (to be fair, I'm down on their system as Mrs, so he was going with what he thought was true). The woman who fitted my glasses didn't comment on the fact I chose men's frames though. Next up, generic clothes shop where I bought socks and a wallet. No comment from cashier, but two kids called me mate. Final test, fitness supplement shop, where I bought protein powder and a shaker. A random (buff) bloke stepped in front of me, then said "sorry mate" and stepped back out of my way.
This all might not seem like much, but it's the first time I've publicly tried to pass and it feels like a pretty positive result. I'm in the UK, and you only call men "mate" here, so I took those two comments as passing OK. Dead chuffed with the result in the supplement shop!
