So to I've been processing this one for a while and I'm still not sure what to think. I was at the BMV (DMV for other states) to get my car registration updated. When it was my turn I handed the woman my ID and car registration. We chatted for a bit.

First off, I haven't gotten around to updating my legal name or gender marker but I transitioned.

The woman glanced at the photo on my ID and said "yep that's you hun." She pulled up my car registration up on her computer and said "Wait! Your name is really [my male birth name]?" I replied "yep, that's me" and then what she said next just made me laugh inside. She scoffed "Why would anyone name their daughter [my male birth name]?!" I half thought she was joking but the more I think back to the puzzled look on her face I honestly think she had no idea I was trans.

It's funny but I honestly hope she realizes it some day.

When I hear a story like that "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash comes to mind.  ;D

funny. I had something like that happen to me when I needed to update my state ID, but I hadn't changed my name. The guy looked at my ID and said where is he he needs to do this.

Lol. I had almost the same experience when withdrawing some cash at the teller. She glanced at my account and say this is not your account, the owner is male. Lol.. I have to hand her my updated driver's license to shut her up. Felt great isn't it?

I remember the first time something similar happened.  I was shopping with my wife, went to check out.  The cashier looked at my card and told me that next time my husband would have to be there.  I had the biggest smile and just said ok sorry :)
