Vocal surgery changed my life

It has been a year and a couple months since I had vocal surgery and I have to say it has had a profound effect upon my life. I lived as I am for years but my voice was not perfect and like many of us it was a telltale sign of what I am.

Being of the mind that I simply want to be a normal girl I wanted to eliminate ANY signs that might not make my presentation to the world the best it can be.

So with all that said I cannot begin to say the how profound the results are. Talking on the phone= piece of cake. talking to people is awesome. Talking to customers since I am self employed is priceless.

I dare say that the vocal surgery has had the most profound impact upon me above FFS and SRS.

For the price its worth every penny, The only downfall is the recovery time is LONG!!!!!!!

What a great outcome! .......It must be very liberating, never to have to think about generating a congruent voice; rather, it becomes one`s new, 'natural' voice.
Recovery from VFS, often requires patience in the extreme......but it`s so worth it!

You are one of my inspirations to give VFS another try (since my first attempt at it failed). I agree with you totally. This is a totally life-changing surgery, especially for those of us who've tried and tried at working towards a decent voice without surgery but have not succeeded.

I just had the surgery too so it's comforting to know that it has worked out for you!
If you didn't mind I'd really appreciate if you could help me with a concern that I have.
Do you remember when you were first able to speak/sing/produce sound post-op?
I have been mindful about not speaking but I've slipped up once or twice but only managed to push air through -
no sound came out at all. 🙁

So when you talk about changes please understand that a lot of changes will happen during recovery and you just have to live with it. I remember SRS took two years to feel totally normal (ex the tightness of the skin).

Yes I was scarred if this surgery years ago when I met a gal when I got srs and her voice was ruined and I swore I would never take the chance.

How did srs affect that girl's voice? Intubation?

The girl with the ruined voice I met in Thailand when I got SRS. I have no idea what her other background was or why she was there. Talking to her was pretty disturbing so I didnt have a long conversation. It was kind of like talking to Kermit the frog.

It's very possible that that was the best the surgeon could do for her. Perhaps she sounded a lot worse than Kermit with her pre-surgery voice. I knew a girl who didn't have any vocal surgery and the best she could do with her trained voice was sound like Marvin the Martian, so I suspect that VFS for her would make her sound like Marvin in the best case.

If I am not mistaken Katie has mentioned previously that she went to Dr. Haben.  I would not necessarily take her lack of mentioning that in this thread one way or the other.
