Okay, I got a referral from a doctor, little good it would probably do. Unfortunately, my mother had her paws all over it, and her presence was unnerving enough that it's not the most accurate referral in the world.

How do I hide the effects of the pills from parents and other people? They're like gods, if they wave their hands then they can make me homeless in an instant, and I'm not too sure about their mental stability.

There is no sure way to hid it. Say the family wants to go swimming at the beach and you need to attend. The moment the shirt comes off or gets wet, that's the end of the secret. You will have to make the decision between dealing with it now or delaying HRT.

If the worst happens you may have some emergency help available because you have a New Zealand passport.(you wrote you have  New Zealand Passport?) I know it's not ideal but you won't be left completely helpless in the event they find out what has been going on and blow their lids.

They are probably going to find out eventually...the changes are likely to be obvious after awhile unless you get a very poor or abnormal result which could happen, that is why medical supervision is essential so that these things don't happen and you get the right med for your situation.

How they react is going to largely be up to you and they way in which you tell them or don't. You know them better than us...is sooner going to be better? leaving things tends to make them worse in my experience...what it comes done to is this...it is your life, your body, your choice! You will prevail despite the outcome

This is exactly where my life took an irreversible turn. I was swimming in a lake and could only do so with a t-shirt on....and even that wasn't working. I took my children (9 and 11 years old) to a large rock, and we sat in the sun and had a little chat. I told them what was happening and they cried....but they were tears of gratitude for sharing with them, and of sadness for what I've endured. I understand that your experience may not align with mine, but I can tell you that from that moment forward I was relieved.

Other than swimming, though, I was able to hide pretty well for the first year of hormones. I really, really resented hiding more and more as every day passed, though.

Competition bikini top and a swim shirt, but yeah.

Anyway, since you are young, you might have as little as six months before the changes to your face will be really noticeable and you never know how fasts your breasts will grow.

You can hide it for a long time if you try. If you keep a boys haircut and avoid taking your clothes off then it's not impossible. You need to find decent compression shirts but avoid ace tape. Within weeks your boobs will be puffy so you really need the compression shirts right away.

No beaches or pools for you ever again though until you don't care anymore. Think up excuses now.

If you ever get "male fail" then you are far enough along anyway to cut the apron strings..

Allowing the obvious signs of development to be noticeable might actually help you to gain the acceptance which you seek.  However, assuming that you are MTF, depending on your age you might have to endure some teasing from your male peers.

Swimming with the family... that is one of my big roadblocks.  How in the world do I pull it off if my body really starts to change???  Looks like the answer is - you don't.  LOL  But the good news is your just get past it and move on as you are?  Still nerve racking on this side of the fence

As long as you cover up they aren't gonna notice the differences especially because no one sits around observing every little feature whether they are against your hrt or not. I really don't think it's a big deal hiding the effects even if someone said something there's so many excuses you can use like loosing/gaining weight or using a new skin care routine etc. I was on hrt for a long time before I was full time living with my dad at the time I had dramatic changes but my dad didn't notice a thing. He only noticed things I didn't hide on purpose like wearing makeup and my hair

I wouldn't worry about it just take your hormones you will notice the difference
