Hey guys I have a question or two for anyone that had 2nd stage phallo done. I am 2 weeks post op and have blood coming out of the penis,  so has anyone experienced the same and how soon did it stop? Do you need to keep it upright? Thanks

I have not had phallo yet but with most major surgeries some blood is expected to a point. Have you contacted the doc? Did they include what to expect post surgery in your paperwork?

I might be the only MTF that can assist with this, but yes that can be expected. The penis that I had was surgically made the way it was and many surgeries were performed and yes bleeding even some pain are definitely possible until you heel. Remember the surgery isn't just affecting what you see on the outside but also what you see on the inside. As it heals the blood should go away. Now having said that any time something nicks or tears/ scratches, etc the inside or even outside next to where you go to the bathroom from can cause blood be seen in the urine. If the bleeding is more than you would expect and doesn't improve over time I would contact the surgeons office and let them know what is going on. Hugs

Thank you both of you for replying. I do hope it will stop. 4 weeks post op will need to try and pee from it so the thought of that is really scary especially if the blood doesn't stop till then... Guess will wait and see till next week if any improvements. I had blood dripping after the 1st stage as well and that lasted a long time hence why I am worried now.

Jason - Are you connected at all to any online bottom surgery support groups? There is one on Yahoo groups and there are several more on Facebook with lots of post-op guys who I'm sure would be happy to discuss.

I don't know if you're able to PM yet, but my Facebook is linked on the left under my picture. You can send me a message on there if you'd like me to connect you. We unfortunately don't have many post op guys on the board here that could respond to your concerns with their experiences, but I can definitely get you in touch with folks that can.

Jason,

I'm gonna go ahead and assume your second stage consisted on urethral hookup. You mentioned that you were gonna try to pee from it so again assuming you still have a catheter and a bag.

I had some bleeding and some urine leakage from the urethral opening while I had the catheter and bag for 3 weeks. Some bleeding is to be expected.

Give your surgeon's office a call. They should be available to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Yes you are correct, the urethral hookup was done at this stage and I have a catheter and a bag. The bleeding I believe comes from the base as when the phallo is hanging freely the base is squished and blood is coming out of the tip of the phallo. What I do now is put some bandages and dress it at a 60° angle so it doesn't put pressure on the base. I hope it will stop eventually if not I may call St Peters next week... Would you say that your bleeding was like this or ... Thanks Nate

the bleeding stopped shortly after I got the bag and the catheter out. I changed the bag from one leg to the other and made sure it wasn't pulling on the catheter and thus on my dick. I just put some gauze to soak in the bleeding and the urine leak. The blood looked worst than it actually was cause there was pee as well mixed with it.

I'm sure other dudes in that phallo group would confirm this is normal. I tried 3 times to get in that group and never made it lol. I give up.  But if your gut feeling says it's not looking normal. Make the call.

Oh and watch for that pee going sideways and making a mess the first time LOL

Thanks Nate. That helps. I keep it at the angle and this morning I had some brown blood coming out of it so I am hoping that's old blood and it's healing ...

Do I need to try and pee and then put the bag in again as I don't remember the Harley nurse saying that to me but I received the letter yesterday and there it says to try and pee and then to meausure the post void residuals in the suprapubic catheter...

Yesterday went to my GP and had a scare . Pulled down my pants and what do I see - blood in the catheter!!! Started panicking and the nurse calmed me down, took swabs and urine tests to check for infection. After a while the blood cleared and only urine was coming out so probably I have injured myself when walking or yanked the catheter somehow. I think because they gave me leg bags with tube length 25cm instead of 6cm and had to put the bag on the lower leg instead of the thighs which probably wasn't a good call... I asked for shorter bags now so if anyone gets prescription from their GPs please make sure they give you the 6cm ones. :)
