My name is Laurel and I'm a 26 year old transitioning mtf from Australia. I just wanted to introduce myself a bit as I have been visiting this site for many years and I have just made the decision to make an account. I realise more and more that if this place didn't exist I would not be where I am or worse, I wouldn't be at all. I became serious about transitioning about a year or so ago after too many years of going back and forth because of fear and uncertainty that I am now more able to understand by reading about countless others that seem to have identical stories to me. I am currently waiting to see a therapist which is at least a six month wait and that fact is bringing me down alot lately and I'm sort of in a numb slumber at the moment feeling like I can't progress and am sort of stuck, in a way. I have the support of a couple of people in my life right now and it helps immensly, and I am looking forward to being here and meeting many of you

Welcome to Susan's.  6 months really does go by pretty fast. at least for me anymore.  there is a ton of things you can do in the interim which i'm sure you're aware of and have most likely already started.  if you do choose hrt then you will be glad to have used this time wisely to get a jump on your medical transition. are you attending any real life trans support groups yet?  if not that would most likely be a great experience for you.

Hi Jane Emily, thank you for the welcome I hope the months will go fast, I'm in a bit of a desperate situation and more upset with myself for not trying to seek help again sooner. I have been for the most part on and off hrt for 6 years and during that have been doing things, much more now than ever. I have yet to make a local support group a regular thing but I have met with some people that are part of support groups. This is one of the things on the top of my list as I can far too easily isolate myself when times get hard

I have yet to make a local support group a regular thing but I have met with some people that are part of support groups. This is one of the things on the top of my list as I can far too easily isolate myself when times get hard

My support groups have been a lifesaver. I know I couldn't have come this far this fast without them.  And pssst, don't tell anybody, but I have a lot of fun there too.

How nice to have new friends from all over the world to get to know.  Laurel i might suggest being "slow" is someone like me who waited decades to deal with being transgender.  I have grandchildren near your age

I feel hopeful for younger folks like you and Romina when there is so much greater knowledge, support, and access to people and medical care than old farts like me could have ever imagined back in the dark ages.

I lack tact sometimes but will suggest that isolation can be a place where fears can magnify.  Socializing can feel like effort but there really is so much more life and love to experience out there.

Hey Tessa, likewise  I count myself lucky in that regard so when I start thinking of lost time I try and remember things like this.

I'm agreeing with how my fears magnify, the longer I spend shutting myself out the worse I get, and then if I can gather up confidence and 'stand my ground' in a way being out, becomes easier and I am finding more and more lately that while I come across a lot of negativity, just as many good things can happen if I'm not so focused on what the next bad thing will be.
