Today marks 4 days since I had top surgery and had the drains and padding removed.
I have a compression vest to wear the next 10 days, and finally looking in the mirror, I noticed that I have gained 4 pounds since Monday, or atleast have gained fat around my mid section. Most likley being a couch potato all week, though without any changes in my diet except cutting out caffine. Prior I was going to a kick boxing gym a couple times a week and gained quite a bit of muscle and lost some fat. Now without having a chest, I have a pot belly thing going on, even without being bloated.
Has anyone expierenced weight gain after surgery? I'm woundering if having surgery could cause weight gain since the body goes through quite a bit during this time, including water weight, despite constantly staying hydrated.

Just some numbers. Four pounds would be over 12,000 calories or about 6 days worth of food. I suspect the weight gain may be due to the fact you have more salt in your diet and are retaining water as the result. Another issues could be bloating because you are laying down and not moving very much. You might need to walk around some to reduce the bloating or at least sit up instead of laying down.

Not to be gross but have you had a bowel movement? They suggest after surgery to take laxatives because the anesthesia and meds can cause you to get backed up. I know I had to take them a few times because I didn't have one for a few days :P.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

If you haven't pooped yet, that would do it.

Yeah, I've been in for surgery before and the anesthesia and painkillers slows it all down. I go on a water diet before and after usually, for a few days so I don't get backed up  ;D
