Anyone who take estradiol tablets, what time of day do you take yours?  Back in november, my dr increased my dosage from 1 tablet a day to 2 tablets a day.  She said to play around with it and see what works for me.  I have been taking it at 9 am and 9 pm with my spiro (which she said to take the Spiro 12 hours apart and not play with that).  I feel rather ok all day but after taking the evening dose I sometimes feel like a I can't settle down at night.  Does anyone take their entire estradiol dose in the morning?  What about sublingual?   My Dr didn't mention sublingual but does it actually make a difference in how you feel/development?

Hi Pisces, I take my estradiol pills sublingually.  I also take two pills a day, one after breakfast and the other one after dinner. I think it is better to split doses when taking pills sublingually because the levels fluctuate more than taking them orally. I feel better when I take my pills sublingually but maybe because I have taken them this way for many years and my body is adjusted to this way. Good luck!!!

Some take their tablets all at once, some twice daily and some even more frequently if taken sublingually because levels fluctuate more. When I took tablets, I found taking them twice daily worked best for me as levels were more steady and I was less likely to suffer from signs of estrogen dropping too low. Individuals VARY.

One in the morning in the cheek. I haven't had a blood test after this change but my breast have gone from aching in the morning to aching all day. If my dosage were twice a day, I would space them out 12 hours apart to reduce the spike in levels.

Does that mean you let it sit in your cheek and dissolve?  Did sublingual or swallowing not work well?

I slobber a lot and sublingual produces way to much moisture making the 15 minute minimum difficult. Putting it between my upper jaw and my cheek allows me to hold it much longer.

When you swallow the pill, the first stop is the liver where most of it is converted to Estrone, an estrogen with about 1/10 the power of Estradiol. Holding it in your mouth eliminates the first pass through the liver resulting in more of it remaining as estradiol. Some will still be swallowed but the goal is to reduce the Estrone and up the amount of Estradiol.

I do one in the morning and one before I go to bed.  I'm trying to get a 12 hour spacing between, so I should probably do it after dinner instead.  Thanks for that.

Mine are also sublingual, but it's not like you can't swallow while it's under your tongue, right?  You just don't swallow the pill.

Dena - you mentioned 15 minute minimum. Where did you get that? My doc just said take it sublingually. I just assumed that meant until it was gone but I was wondering how much can actually be absorbed in the 2-3 minutes it takes to melt.

I take one when I wake and then when I get home from work.

The longer you hold it, the better the absorption and the normal number I  see is 15 minutes. Another saying is if you taste it, you waste it. I suspect the time you need to hold it may be personal dependent. Some people may be able absorb the pill faster than others. You may need to as you doctor for an opinion as to how long the pill needs to be held because I don't really have a firm number.

So I took my morning dose and evening dose as sublingual today and my boob area was more tender/sensitive.  Maybe it was all in my head but I suppose I will keep it up for a week or so and see if I feel any different.
