flying without changing gender marker

Hello all, I'll be flying out of the States for the first time since transitioning. As of right now I dont feel like I want to change my gender marker yet. Is there gonna be a problem or have you guys been in or heard of this circumstance? Thanks!

It might depend on what country you're flying to. Some nations are hostile to trans people so if your passport says one gender (name, photo) but you're presenting as another you may have issues.

I get stopped every time now as my breasts show up on the scanners and I'm presenting male. I just say I'm trans and usually get a pat down. Nothing much to worry about.

Having said that there's a huge list of countries I'd not visit or even transit.

Hahaha! Last time I flew people could see my gender says "F" on my documentation if they wanted to but some of them must have missed it because they called me sir anyways.

Flying out in March to meet my SO for the first time and have heard so many horror stories, glad to hear some ppl have flown without major issues

I accidentally flew with my packer in my pants. Of course I remembered in the middle of the TSA line and couldn't quickly pull it out....I was shooting bullets up to the big scanner but god came down from the heavens and said "thou shalt go through the metal detector". The whole line went threw the old fashion way to speed things up. Man was that my lucky day! I'm newly out and transitioning. I don't think my poor little heart could have withstood a TSA explanation for the yellow marker appearing over my crotch.

I flew the other way round, presenting female, but with an "M" on all my IDs. Nobody said anything, if they even noticed, I don't know, but I was always gendered female in all my interactions with TSA, airline staff, and flight crew.

I had worried myself sick about it before my flights, but nope, not a problem at all..

I've had all sorts of problems with TSA and not a single one has ever been because of the fact that my presentation and marker do not match.

I am just an unlucky individual who seems to set off the body scan no matter which button they press or whether I'm binding/packing or not. I have tried every combination and I ALWAYS get a weird result.

As a kid the problems stemmed from my parents being divorced, which flagged our passports, and we didn't know we needed a letter from the other parent saying they were aware of the travel plans (supposedly to stop child kidnappings by a parent but the funny part is they didn't stop us from leaving the country, we got stopped in immigration on the way back in.)

I have flown a lot in my life and I am sure that IN THE US they honestly don't give a crap what marker is on your ID and they probably won't notice it. As long as the picture looks like you and the names match the ID and ticket, you're good.

As far as once you're in the other country, it just depends on what the other country is.

I've never had a problem with TSA about being trans. I've changed my gender marker but my name is still female so they kind of just give a confused look at my I.D. Ha ha. When my marker wasn't changed though they'd try to make my name sound more masculine. It was very strange. I always go off through the metal detector cause of the Spinal Fusion surgery I had when I was 14 so that usually deters them but you should be ok.

Before I had my ID changed, I noticed that as long as your photo looks like you, you're good. They seem to not even look at gender marker (speaking only from my experience, both with DL and passport).

Also, they deal with trans folks all the time. You'll be fine.

thanks everbody. My passport pic does look like me now but DL was back when I had medium hair. So recent exp. I was buying beer and the cashier was looking hesitant questioning me like " this is you?" I was like "yeah" I felt bad that I didnt want to explain to her but she seemed like a nice lady
