I am nearing a Year of HRT and RLE and as I do, I am looking at surgeons to decide on who I want to do the surgery. I want it to be natural looking and have a decent depth. Currently I am considering
the boston Medical center. It's fairly new to this and I haven't heard much about the results but it seems like a pretty viable option.
Dr. Kathy Rumer sounds pretty good but I've heard hit or miss stories with her. She does have a pretty short wait list though which is nice and she is covered under my insurance. I've heard that she has a good track record with surgeries but I've seen a few stories about her messing up.
Dr. Christine Mcginn is my original choice though again every surgeon seems to have hit and miss stories. She seems to be an odd ball with insurance as she is covered but isn't covered?
I'm considering getting the surgery within the next year or two, preferably the sooner the better, but trying to decide has proven to be the real challenge. I'm looking for experiences with any of these places to help with my decision. I was originally considering Bowers, but with how long the wait list is and the cancellation list is I can't help but sadly put her out since a 3 year waiting list is a bit too long for me. She is covered by insurance though which would be nice and I don't really know how fast the cancellation list goes, and then of course I've had a few people tell me she's lately been more on the malpractice side of things with how she does the surgery or something but I couldn't find any information to support this. There was also dr.Meltzer in Arizona but he is expensive and doesn't take insurance either. I'm trying to keep the surgery within the States as well.

Meltzer is expensive, yes, but he's probably the most consistent SRS surgeon in the States.  SRS is something you'll have to live with for the rest of your life -- it really behooves you to do your research and see the different results, both good and bad, from everyone you're considering.

If cost is a concern, don't rule out some great surgeons overseas like Suporn, either.
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.

Cost is a bit of a concern. Meltzer, he does seem to have really good results, but he doesn't accept insurance. I've thought about Suporn, but I worry about stuff like the language barrier that might come into play or the complications involved in going out of state. There also is Brassard in Canada but lately I've seen a bunch of bad reviews of him. It is something I have to live with for the rest of my life which is why I am look to peoples experiences and reaching out the the doctors too.

One of my dearest friends went to Suporn well over a decade ago, and had no problems with the international travel and no problems with using English.  And she had a great result, too.  :)

What you should be most concerned with, though, are the things you'll have to deal with for the rest of your life.  Sensation, aesthetics, depth, lack of serious complications -- that's what you should focus on, and to evaluate those, you need to do your research and see results, both good and bad.  Understand the differences in technique and the different trade-offs in philosophy.  You shouldn't start your decision-making process on things like ease of access or cost; save those for the back-end of discerning which of the few surgeons who will actually do the good work you need you'll end up going to.

If the surgeon who best delivers what you need has a longer waiting list, or is more expensive, trust me it will be worth it to put up with another year of waiting and dysphoria, or spending a couple more years paying off a substantial debt, to have it done right from the get go.

And you choose anyone but Suporn, start "bottom electrolysis" now and keep up with it for a good year -- you don't want a forest growing in your vagina.
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.

That is actually really detailed and I am also concerned with sensation aethetics and depth too and hopefully no complications o.o But I am trying to keep a balance of everything, though if I'm going with the looks and sensation and asthetics I would go with my original choice bowers then mcginn.

I know a few people that have gone to Meltzer and have it covered by insurance.  I wouldn't count him out.

I went to Brassard in November and I am very happy with the results.  I am not sure where you were seeing the bad reviews from Brassard, in my research I found mostly positive ones.  Although I was only looking at people who had surgery with him the last few years.  The downside with Brassard is he does not accept US insurance.

I would be cautious about using someone new.  They may not have a lot of bad reviews, but that can just be because few people have reviewed them.  More establish surgeons do have more bad reviews in total number, mostly because of the amount of surgeries they perform, but percentage wise they have they are very low in bad reviews.

Oh wow, I wonder how they got him covered by insurance. If they really did then I might consider him then. But yeah I want someone with experience but I also do want to have the best results possible.

I had my SRS with Doctor Rumer. I had very good experience and would highly recommend her.

What irks me most is when people share comments about hearing bad reviews about a surgeon. Every surgeon I bet has had a few bad reviews. I've heard of many things said, but I care not to share them. I did my own homework and met with Dr. Brassard before deciding to go with him.
He is top notch, but is the best or the worst? How the heck do you rate them.
I'm a very satisfied customer lol

Exactly, when I was searching for a surgeon every single one of them had a bad review somewhere.
All you can do is collect as much info as you can and make an informed decision.

That makes a lot of sense lol. But I guess the next thing I should do is talk to the doctors and gather more information. ^_^

How long is Rumers wait list? She is covered by my insurance now and I'd like to proceed ASAP. Her reviews are good, no travel involved, and easy to get back to if need be. But
HRT start: 03.02.2013. GRS (and BA) date: 9.13.2017.

* Thanks Obama! Seriously, without him (and PA Gov. Wolf!) and expanded Medicaid, I would never accumulated the $30,000 needed to to afford surgery.

I had my consultation in June and surgery at the end of November. That was the first open date when I scheduled, so about a 6 month wait.
