I, Denise, am about to leave for a dinner party with my wife and 4 to 6 couples who do not know I'm transitioning.  I have not seen any of them in months so they have no idea.

Thanks for the replies - answer - I had three of the ladies in tears (joy/sorrow... that I had to endure it for so long).  The guys mostly were "who cares".  A few of the ladies and I had a long discussion about everything.

As expected - NO ISSUES, 100% SUPPORT.  I don't know what conversations my wife had as she doesn't share a lot with me on this topic but I can guess "sorry", "are you  okay", "If you need anything"... is what I expect she heard.

Basically I was Dee and that was it.  Dan won't be back ... Glad to meet you, where is the wine? and off the evening went.

If anyone is ever put in to that situation - I suggest arriving late to "Tell the tale once and not multiple times."

Thanks again for your support I know I can always count on y'all.

Congratulations! That must be a relief.

You must have some great friends.

I hope your transition continues with this sort of smoothness.

With warmth,

We decided this dinner group is actually a support group for what ails us.  One cancer patient, one rough marriage, one trans (me), and a lot of relationship issues.

The one guy that worried me was not there (apparently really sick) texted me this morning... Support and let's get together.  I'm a little surprised at the that.

That is terrific advice Dee.  When coming out i tried the one to one and asked people to let me do the tell, hinting it's OUR story, don't gossip.  But this is really juicy and salacious news and people shared anyway.  I finally put my story in the Daily newspaper and found it to be very helpful.  I saved myself a lot of further explanations.

We own our narrative and as anyone can figure out from being here there are similarities but each one of us is unique.

You put it in THE PAPER?  OMG!
I actually like telling people my story. Educating people is good.  But in a group, those that already know don't necessarily need or want to hear it again and again.

I'm still in shock... The paper?  I don't even want it on Facebook yet.  The close to 100 people that know have all been respectful and have not said anything publicly. I'm at the point where if it did happen it wouldn't be so bad.

As a minor politician and community activist I am a very public citizen and knew my transition could generate lots of heat or better, shed some light.  I also knew I would be in the public spotlight to some degree and many of us know how we can suddenly have celebrity status, good or bad, as we come out.  I was so surprised by how accepting and supporting the majority of people were/are that I rolled with it and saved myself lot's of time and further explanation.

No, it's not Mardi Gras or drag it's Tessa and I feel free.  I also serve on national and local diversity and inclusion groups and get to do Transgender and LGBTQ 101 presentations.  Educating, humanizing and helping the world become familiar with us is a big part of my very enjoyable life work in retirement.

Congratulations, Denise!

And, it's threads like this that have me saying again, all my role models are here at Susan's place.  Real life is so different than a TV show, or an interview with a media darling.
