So I had my SRS with Dr. Suporn nearly a year ago. At about the two month mark, I was cast in a show. I went down to 2 dilations a day without issue, but the stupid decision was that often I only dilated with the small, as I'd be in a rush to get to rehearsals and I could get the small to depth quicker. Over time I got tighter and tighter. Frankly, for a long while I was depressed and couldn't imagine having sex at any point in the near future, so I kinda stopped caring about dilating for a while and just didn't do it for a few months. I did lose about 3/4ths of an inch of depth, which was lucky that it was only that. And before I lost anything I was 7.5 inches of depth, so 6.75 is perfectly usable. Anyway I decided to really make an effort to regain my width. I ordered the two in between dilators between the small and medium. I can work my way through from the small up to the medium with time and some pain. Though I still can't get the medium to my full depth (I do get the small and the two in between sizes to depth). Has anyone else made this dumb mistake and let things close up more than they should? And if so, have you been able to regain width and do you have any tips? Again, my depth is fine. Don't need to gain more depth just width.

Suporn's post-op care manual, under "Loss of Depth" says "Lost depth cannot be regained. While narrowness can be increased later, its quite a long process to do so."

I'd guess you just work your way up.

The first couple of years are the most critical if you wish to retain what you have. I have not had experience with this but I have some thoughts. Women are sometimes born without vaginas and there is a process through dilation where one is created. That suggest over time it might be possible to gain back most or all that you have lost. The second idea is if you aren't already doing it, work with two dilators in every session. The first should be the one that gives you sufficient depth and the second would be the next size up. When you can take the larger one to your satisfaction, make the large one your first dilator and step up to the next size. My dilation time was and still is 20 minutes and that seems to work pretty well. If your doctor recommended less, you might want to bump up the time. If you are over 20 minutes, I suggest you stick with what the doctor suggested.

Yeah, the general wisdom is that depth can be lost forever, but width can be regained. It may take a while, but dilating with progressively wider dilators (just as you did initially) should eventually get you back to where you were. Width is mostly defined by the body's own flexibility and the muscles tightening up, both of which can be gradually improved (up to the limits of the pelvis, at any rate).
