Of course they are, Nero.  It is not meant to happen as some may believe. It just happens.  That's how biology works.  Without new changes and differences, it becomes stagnant and dies.

Unfortunately, we, as thinking beings, must ponder the value of our existence. Had we not this ability, it would not matter that we are different.  But we continue to ponder and evaluate.  This is a good thing. Perhaps as a society, we will learn to value the thoughts and experiences from those who are born different.

I think so Nero, but I can't elaborate as to why.  Just my belief and outlook on life.

I have always tried to have a positive outlook on life. My life hasn't been the best but I try to make it better. I won't go into detail of my life, but right now I feel very greatful for what I have had. I don't thank any supernatural being either, I thank myself for working at trying to be better.

I think the question implies there's a Teleological basis for Existence. I don't think it follows suffering is what some folks are destined and others are not. Then again, that's just me.

I don't think that people were born to do anything.

But some people are born into a position where suffering is more likely.

Sins of the fathers?

Is one. Sins of the community. Sins of the rulers.

Plain bad luck.

Or attitude to plain bad luck.

I think so as well.  However, my grandpa used to tell me, that somewhere in the world, there is often someone that has it worse than we do (no matter how bad we think our lives are..)

Hi,

I don't believe that anyone is born to suffer.  Some people do obviously suffer more and more often than others, but I would blame circumstance, not the idea that the person is destined to suffer.

Like that Indian girl who was born with 8 limbs.  She underwent a serious operation to remove the extra's, but it could have gone the other way and she could of had no operation in which case she was expected to suffer more the longer she lived and eventually die in her teens.
Now, we can believe that she will always be alright and I hope she is, however, she remains at the mercy of circumstances as they happen upon her in the future, as are we all.

Did you see the biography of frida kahlo?  I mean the documentary, not the film.  http://www.pbs.org/weta/fridakahlo/ if you can see the thing, you will understand what I'm trying to say.  The woman went through hell, but handled it with strength that I'm sure is beyond me.

Living is to suffer, at least as a human. We experience suffering because of our thinking. We conceptualize suffering and, thus, do so. If one changes their thoughts, then perhaps one does not suffer. Certainly not so much as some who invest themselves in constant suffering.

Thanks for suffering through that.

We weren't necessarily born to suffer, but suffering is a reality of life.

Luckily there is an antidote for all this suffering... pass the chocolate please  ;D
