In an elevator? Yup, in an elevator.

I've come out to maybe 100 people myself.  Typically one-on-one, occasionally in a small group.  I prefer the single interaction because they ask questions.  No one asks questions in a group setting.

Yesterday I tried an experiment.  There wss someone I needed to tell and I ran into him as we got on an empty elevator on the seventh floor.  I told him everything before we got to the lobby.  It was actually funny.  We chatted for a minute in the lobby.  His only question was interesting, "Is congratulations the right thing to say?" My response, "yeah I guess.... Mostly."

My coming out spiel isn't short, so I don't think I could accomplish it during an elevator ride.

Are you in a tall building?  ;)

That was about 20-30 seconds... To goes like this:

Do you know what Gender Dysphoria is?  .... No?  It's the clinical diagnosis for people who are transgender, and I've been diagnosed with it. (Short pause) Effective March third, I'll be Denise.  Dan is going away.

Now there's a situation you don't encounter every day.  I think he handled it pretty well all considering.

He's an artsy guy from our digital design group.  Very open minded early 30's hipster.  I thought he was a good test case.

This is by far my favorite coming out statement.  For some reason i read it in the voice of an angry drill sargeant. So the ending would be like " and if you maggots dont like it, drop and give me 20!" If this is something you do alot then i suggest buying a box of microphones. Make your statement, drop a microphone and say " now what bitches?"

OMG did you make me laugh!

The one thing my coming out speech does is removes the concept of "this is a choice" and makes it "medical."
