Hi All,

I received my first set of hormones on Saturday (Evorel 100 patches and Finasteride 5mg tablets).

I've only had them on for 3 days now and it feels fine but I have noticed that I'm more tired than I usually would be. It's not a problem as such but I'd be interested to know if other people experienced similar when they started the hormones?

Thanks!

Hey Sophie,

I had what i called a kind of flat feeling the first week on similar HRT. Yes a little tired and even queasy.  We adjust and oh does it get better!  Others here have made similar observations and I expect this is within normal limits/ WNL.  Should that feeling persist you might want to check in with your clinic peeps.  Congrats on getting started!

The tiredness will eventually fade away as your body adjusts.  It may take a few months though.  My T is now essentially shut down and undetectable and as long as I drink enough water and eat enough salt my energy level is pretty high. I also had to start supplementing with magnesium which I think fixed another problem I was developing.  Water and salt loss is a side effect of spiro that you may not experience.

Hi Sophie!  I've been on HRT for about a year and a half, and I have experienced periods of fatigue.  In fact it's happening right now, so your post really caught my attention.  A trans friend of mine is experiencing similar effects.  So, yes.  The HRT can zap your energy.  I'm having to force myself to get up and around.  Then it's not so bad.  And if you can take short naps, those can help, too.  Have a nice day!

   Congrats Sophie,

You body is reacting to new things it has never had to deal with before so strange feelings are likely. Though it is probably normal, if it persists or you become more concerned, as Tessa suggested a call to you proscriber would be in order. One note. Just wait a few weeks for when your nipples get tender. You may experience fatigue then as well. Keep in mind  that the soreness indicate growth is in progress and your body is using up more reserves to fuel that growth. Tired you may feel but wonderful things are happening.

  Hugs,

Excess tiredness can be a symptom of low estrogen as you need to take enough to compensate for the loss of testosterone. Sometimes, too low T can also result in chronic fatigue. Cyproterone acetate is sometimes known to also cause this in higher doses and spironolactone due to dehydration. You need to go see your doctor if this persists and prevents you from functioning normally.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Even after a week, it's already feeling much better so I suspect it was just the crossover period :)

On my way!

Glad you are feeling better Sophie. In 2 - 4 weeks you will probably be feeling weird again but it wll be centered in 2 places on your chest ;D ;D  Happy days lie ahead. Enjoy to ride.

Hi Sophie,
I started estradiol 4 days ago and have been noticing an energy slump in the afternoon. I'm guessing it's the body and mind working hard to process all this wonderful new information.
I've been allowing myself to grab a 20 minute lie down and then I spring back to life.
Hugs

I started HRT 13 yrs ago. Pre-op, I never felt tired. Post-op, as my T levels dropped further, to low/under normal female range, I felt I didn't quite have the energy/stamina I used to have and this significantly affected my quality of life. Just recently, I started taking a small amount of testosterone and my energy is better. I feel more 'me' again.

Your symptoms may be temporary as you adjust to the change in sex hormones but if they persist, you may wish to discuss the issue of too low T with your doctor.

It will take some time for your body to acclimate to the new hormonal landscape.  I got headaches my first couple of days and could not sleep well for the 1st month or two.  And I'm a heavy sleeper.  Now my sleep is pretty much like it always was.
