hi i am new. was diagnosed with klinefelters syndrome last year. still don't know how to feel about being on the borderline between male and female. I started trt and it has helped my overall health. I want to get a phalloplasty with dr. crane. I was wondering if anyone has used him and has tricare? I have micropenis from the klinefelters. I will donate it to someone if they want it, lol. Don't know where to start to even get the ball rolling on it. How do I tell my doctor that I need this and it is medically necessary? Tricare said they would pay for it if it was. I am contemplating suicide if I can't get this done. Some people say to just accept it. I don't want to accept it, i'm not happy. I can't have sex with it and can't even penetrate far enough to impregnate my wife. It's sad, a sad little guy. Help me forums!

Welcome to Susan's Place. I understand what you are saying and you don't exactly fit into any place on the forum so as your primary interest is surgery, I am moving this tread to the FTM section where people more knowledgable about the surgery will see your request. As with any insurance, you should review the policy very carefully. It's possible some excepts would be made for birth defects or correction surgery that could be used to support your argument. This is something that may take a while to figure out so don't give up.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

Hi Yogabba,

I'm Jeanette, the unofficial greeter for Susan's Place. I would like to welcome you to Susan's. Invite you on on so to speak. Come on now come on , come on in. Have a seat and try to get yourself comfortable. Grab a beverage, take a sip and a deep breath. From what you've told us you sound like you could use a breather. Relax, read some posts, perhaps they will help you with the information you need. Comment if you feel inclined and ask more questions if you need to.
I am 64 and a MtF on HRT. I don't think I can personally be of assistance to you as we have completely opposite problems, here I am trying to get rid of mine and you are seeking advice on what you can do to make yours better. I'm sorry.
Dena, one of our fine moderators and an Official greeter, Has I think rightly directed you to a forum that can better answer the questions that you have as those folks are seeking much the same things that you are. i hope you will give them a chance. I will ask if you are seeing a therapist, possibly a gender therapist as I think they able able to help you with the unique problems you are asking for help on. A therapist not only will help you cope with themental anguish you clearly are experiencing but they can also steer you to the medical solution you think you need if that will help you.

Welcome to Susan's again  Yogabba

  Hugs,
    Jeanette

Any candidate for phalloplasty needs 2 letters from mental health professionals and 1 letter from their personal doctor. One of the mental health referrals needs to come from someone at the doctorate level (so PhD, PsyD, etc.).

Letters from mental health practitioners should address: who they are, how they are qualified to assess transgender or intersex patients for surgical referrals, that you are the age of majority in your country, that you have an official diagnosis (with provided evidence), that you have no additional mental health concerns or if you do that they are well managed, and that you are educated on the procedure you are seeking.

Letter from doctor should address: how long you have been receiving HRT, that you have the capacity to make an informed decision and consent to treatment, that you are the age of majority in your country, that your medical or mental health concerns are well managed, and their agreement that surgery is both medically necessary and appropriate for you.

So I would start by meeting with your doctor and telling them this is the procedure you want and that you need a letter containing all of the above things. I would ask them to refer you to a therapist who can evaluate your case and write a letter containing the above things. I would ask that therapist if they know a psychiatrist who can evaluate your case and cosign their letter.

While you're in the process of getting all that together, you can schedule a consult with the surgeon of your choice. Some of them will not agree to meet with you unless you have letters already.

I would check with Tricare and see who they are currently covering for phalloplasty. I can't think of any surgeons off the top of my head that do. But there's no use getting your heart set on a particular surgeon only to find out insurance won't cover them.

i think it would be great if insurance did pay for it, but i'm prepared to pay out of pocket. I'm seeing a psychologist at the VA, but I guess I will need to get a higher level wizard to cast a spell for me. Thanks for the info on what to do first.

Stage one of phalloplasty with Crane is right around $100,000. That doesn't include any implants. Just the flap harvesting, placement, microsurgery, urethral transfer, etc.

oh my lord. sounds like killing myself would be the cheaper option.

Perhaps cheaper but it would be the worst option not to mention selfish. If you chose that option how would we be able to get to know you? Think of those that love you. Would it be fair to them? I'll admit that at my lowest self centered why me? moments I thought of that option. Came pretty close to trying it truth be told. But if I had I would never have had the chance to repair my relationship with my daughter and would never have known my 5 grand children.

It is NOT a good option. Now get it out of your head.

  Hugs,
    Jeanette
