"Democrats are reintroducing a federal bill to outlaw discrimination against LGBT people – but senior Republicans are expected to continue blocking it."

Make those who would block freedom actually go on record for their bigotry. Sounds entirely reasonable and like good strategy.

Because a majority of voters are in favor of it and red states are actively passing laws that will abrogate equal protection of lgbt people.

Its a good idea, but still very little will be unexpected. For starters, everyone knows people like James Inhofe and such will vote agasint it.. and Inhofe in particular has very little to worry about electorally, tho at his age the grim reaper is more likely to visit him. In other words he will be 100 and croak in office (unless he retires) as the more likely senareo then the most reddest state voting him out. Still, i do understand about putting people on the record. Lets be frank. Almost all Democrats will support such a messure. A few Republicans will too more then likley (Murkowski, Collins, ect probably). However, those from the deep deep red states are unlikely too. It will be up to the people of those states to punish the bigoted congressperson. Not to be rude but I think that some states, like Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas and perhaps even West Virginia, that have a sizeable population still not on board with lgbts at this moment will not only not vote agaisnt them, but may even gain support all in the name of ''family values''. On the other hand, North Carolina punished their bigoted EX-Govenor just last November,, and even though it is a more in the middle state it goes to show that bigotry will not be tolerated in most place!

Why do we need a baloney law like this?

When your rights aren't legally protected, it's not a "baloney law" to protect them.  It's an act of justice.

I'm glad this has been introduced.  Now all we need is 218 Congressional Reps and 51 Senators to agree.  (NOT gonna happen in this session of Congress!)  Then, of course, we need a President of the United States who won't veto the law.
