I had my initial consultation today for starting HRT.  Met with the OB/GYN that my therapist has worked with previously and recommended.  I figured I'd probably have to do some blood tests and maybe a follow-up appointment or something before I'd get my prescriptions.  Well I was wrong, apparently when my GP did my physical last year, the tests he did were all my OB/GYN needed.  So she sent the prescription to my pharmacy right away and I've got a follow-up appointment in two months.

So on the way home I decided since it is Visibility day, I would take on another first.  Up until now, I've not gone out in my little town as Alyssa (other than in the car headed to other places) in order to avoid running into people I know who I'm not out to yet.  But today I decided, I'm not going home to change before picking up my prescription, it's time to be visible. So I went in and picked up my Spiro and my Estradiol pills.  It went smoothly, no familiar faces around.  So then I headed home and took my first dose.

I'm officially now on HRT!!!

Congratulations Alyssa, it is an exciting time!!

I'm honestly a little concerned for you that no blood work with base hormone or other critical levels were established before you started....lipids, electrolytes etc.  How would your Dr. know how you are reacting (hormonal and otherwise) and how or if to modify dosage in the future?

Well I'm no doctor, but here's what I know.  My GP did my lipids late last year and I've had them.checked annually for the last 8 years since my dad had bypass surgery.  She was confident with that. As far as hormone levels, she will check them at the 2 month but I don't recall her exact explanation for why she didn't feel and initial level was necessary.  She did also.mention the fact that I'm physically very active, at a healthy BMI and not in a high risk category of any type.

Ultimately this isn't her first, tenth or even 100th rodeo. I trust her because of the number of trans patients she's worked with, her involvement in a local university trans clinic, and the fact that she is younger and very up to date on the latest treatment methods.

Congratulations!  For both huge events.  Yes, that is definitely a way to have a Rebirthday!

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.
