I have owned a Tria unit for several years. The model I have specifically states that it is not to be used on the face or neck, but I am not sure if the newer models have this limitation. I hate to state the obvious, but check the manual to be sure. Although I have not used the Tria on my face, I have used it in other areas. It does work, but it takes quite a few treatments before you will see a noticeable reduction in hair. Any setting lower than '3' did not seem to do much, so I always set it on '5' (the maximum setting).

For your face I would recommend going to a professional if possible. I am doing both laser and electrolysis for my beard because I have a fair amount of grey. Although the laser is working on the dark hairs, is useless on light colored hair.

I've been using a Tria for about 9 months. It has worked really well on my arms and hands. It hasn't worked quite as well on my chest and stomach. There is some reduction, but a lot of hair there on me is intermediate between peach fuzz vellus hair and terminal hair. It is dark and somewhat long, but very fine. The Tria seems to work better on thicker hair follicles.

Although the newest Tria can be used by women on the face and neck, it is not recommended for use on beards because the concentration of follicles can cause burning of the skin. I've ignored the warning, because that's main reason why I bought it in the first place. I have seen some reduction on my neck and the sides of my face, but those areas were always pretty sparse for me so I can use the highest level, level 5. I can't really tolerate higher than level 3 on the denser areas, especially the upper lip.

I may just go to electrolysis for these areas soon, I'm disappointed of how little progress has been made on my face, and I absolutely hate wearing foundation. I don't see myself ever being comfortable wearing it in public. One sneeze and it's a huge mess and my stubble is revealed.

I removed most of hairs in my face, legs, and armpits with the Tria I purchased in 2010.
Last year, I purchased the second one, as the battery stopped and I still have minor hairs to remove.

For me, it took more than 1 year to noticeably remove leg hairs. For armpits, it takes less time as the area is relatively small. For facial hairs, I still  see some fine, but strong hairs growing in my beard area. When I see them, I strike them with my new Tria. It takes a few minutes. I guess the  most resistant hairs are in the beard area, but fortunately the number is few. In my case, I guess I have to strike each hair more than 20 times with Tria.

Whenever it is painful, decrease the level of power of Tria.

I don't have very dense facial hair and it started showing real noticable results for me after about 7 months... A lot of pain for what could have been accomplished much faster, but it worked.

From what I've gathered, the benefits of a Trial are:
- Privacy (if you're not comfortable with another person doing this for you)
- Price if you don't have cheap laser hair removal near you
- Touch ups if you already had professional laser done

Aside from that, professional laser in a large metropolitan area for the face can be as cheap as $70 for 6 sessions if you check places like Groupon, but no everyone has that privilege
