I was quitting my job, so I was at the dentist on the last day of my dental coverage to have a crown installed. My resignation on 31 Dec 1999 caused some consternation among my co-workers, since I was the guy responsible for verifying that all our software was ready for "Y2K". I had to assure tham that I hadn't bought a plane ticket to Rio de Janeiro, and that the software really was fine.
A year later, I was back working for them as a consultant. We had more Y2K problems in 2001 than we did in 2000. The date 00/01/02 is unambiguous: the 00 can only be the year, so the format has to be yy/mm/dd, since yy/dd/mm is never used anywhere in the world. However, 03/02/01 could be 3rd Feb 2001 (European format), 2nd Mar 2001 (American format), or 1st Feb 2003 (International format). We got bitten by that one.
