Trans and swimming: do you do it? If yes, what do you wear?

Hello guys and girls!
This is a question for everyone, but especially for my fellow t-girls.
I am pre-op and still have no breast at all but I would love to go for a swim every once in a while. The problem is: I don't know what to wear! Bikinis are obviously off-limits and I would opt for a swimsuit (I guess that a swimsuit would help with keeping the tuck in place) but I don't know how to fake some breast without having some silicone stuff moving around while I swim!
What do you girls do?

There are swim suits with an attached skirt which helps hiding. For beachwear you can also find some nice wrap-arounds.
There are also two piece combos with more of a boy short.

Here is a lengthy thread around swimsuits with many member pictures...

I plan on swimming post op as soon as I'm permitted. I've been to the lap pool a few times with my enlarged breasts (small B but not extraordinarily large on my 5'11" frame).

I cannot bring myself to wear a maillot pre-op, in no small part because i hate tucking and also because I think it wouldn't stay tucked swimming a mile of laps. So I simply aim to get from the pool deck into the water quickly. I look forward to feeling comfortable in proper attire.

Omg i hate all swimwear. I miss when i was a little kid and i just used to go in my underpants sometimes. Yes I'd rather swim in my childhood frilly knickers than an actual swiwmsuit. I just hate shopping for them because in don't want ANY of them but you know, i have to think about it because i have boobs.

In terms of advice for a transgirl buying swimwear... You can get swimwear that has padding in the chest area, and it's not gonna come out and float about it's fine. If you're worried about a bulge down below, i mean, hopefully your tucking method will stay put under water, but other than that people won't analyse your crotch when it's underwater - it's sorta out of sight. But when walking around in the swimsuit on a beach or something I recommend a very casual beach dress or just wearing shorts over it if your worried that a bulge could he seen.

It's nice to hear something from a guy, too! Thanks for your advice :)
For what concerns trans men I've seen a pic online of trans guys just using a tight binder and then wearing a masculine version of a top to cover it and then shorts. It looked great! Or you could use a binder and then a male swimsuit on top I guess(?). A lot of cis-males wear those to avoid being exposed to light if they have some sort of light-sensibility.

Yeah thanks i think I've heard that tip on YouTube. It's something i gotta think about but I'm not just out here living as a guy... I'm in a bit of experimental limbo and although i now dress as a dude down to my boxers, i feel like when i choose swimwear I'm making a real statement and 1) I'm not up for that yet and also... Who knows if I'd even want to swim in a binder geez  2) mostly i can avoid swimming unless I'm going on holiday, usually with my mum, and i cannot discuss these things with her and she keeps trying to throw away my boxers and such, so i have never known what to do when she tells me I need to buy a swimsuit for a holiday. I am really hoping to avoid going on holiday with her this year. I'm at uni now and try to spend only small periods of time with her.

I remember there was this butch person in my sixth form (in an all girl's school) who turned up late for sports day swimming wearing a full-body wetsuit and i always wondered if that had some dysphoric significance since they (to be safe) always seemed completely like a guy to me. I was sitting there like "yeah i wouldn't know what to wear either, that's why i refused to be drafted into swimming". I wonder if they tried to make it comical to cover up the anxiety caused by having to decide on swimwear when you know "being a girl". Cos it was sort of hilarious.

The only swimsuit I have is a woman's.  I'm not living full-time as a guy, so wearing it is sort of okay.  Sort of.  I've thought about trying to wear shorts and a t-shirt instead, but I think a wet t-shirt would only accentuate my boobs rather than hide them.  Binders appear not to come in my size, and even if they did, I'm not sure I'd want to swim in one.

I second the idea of wearing a suit with a skirt to avoid having to worry about the tucking issue.

I dont think I will be going swimming this year. I am still insecure with my body and hope that next year I will be able to have most of the body I see myself having I would love to wear a bikini

Yeah you got it exactly. I feel like shorts and a t shirt will make me look really frickin awkward and sorta like a small child at the pool. And being in water at all makes stuff stick to you so unless you wanna go intense on the binding, and you don't because you'll frickin drown if you have any trouble or at least it'll feel like it, it will still not help you pass much. I've really got to work out my least evil swimwear option is because thinking about summer approaching is making me worry now. It's so much easier to not worry about how overly feminine/like a small boy I look when wearing layers of cool clothes i like.

As someone who's done a lot of swimming I used to wear the full or half body training swimsuits, they're unisex anyway. You could probably wear something under a regular swimsuit if you wanted to. I mean, you could probably wear a bra under one. Can't see why not. If it's the same color as the suit I doubt anyone would even notice. If you're planning on doing strenuous swimming though I don't think it's a good idea.

These days I don't bother with swimming in the public baths as it's too much of a pain to get to, I just use the sea. Since it's typically very cold I therefore do it in a 3/5 mm male cut wetsuit, depending on the time of year for thickness.  Male cut wetsuit is generally more comfortable since it has more room at the shoulders, because mine are rather big... and a lot of female wetsuits really do seem to have very dinky shoulders. Which surprises me because you'd think they'd cater for female swimmers better who also have well-developed shoulders.

Anyhow marine wetsuits and rashguards crush everything down as much as possible, no need to worry about that for me. Plus the fact the most inquisitive creatures around are only the fish.

I'm not ready to go swimming yet, but I did accidentally find shorts (cut at feminine length) which are designed for water.  If I could find a decent top that would stay on, then maybe I could go swimming.

Before coming out as female, I used to avoid swimming with friends and would only swim alone.  I had gynecomastia, so I suppose I was in a similar situation to a trans-guy though more subtle.  I used to swim with black t-shirts on.  I recommend that as a "guy way" to swim.

You could look in to a swimsuit made for those women that have had a mascetomy. These have pockets in the bust to accommodate breast forms. As far as the junk down below there are several tucking methods that may be employed. I'll even wager you could find some info on it in the wiki link above.

I got lucky with breasts.  I am almost a 38B.  I wear two piece bikinis in public but I choose my venues and suits carefully.  And I do a good, careful tuck and tape.  I look for bikini bottoms that are a little conservative and wide in the crotch.  I've tried one piece suits but they don't work for me because I'm a bit long in the torso for a girl my size.

If you are flat chested look for tops with flounces and ruffles -- a girl's favorite trick for hiding a flat chest.

Mostly I swim in places where no suit is required.
Otherwise, it is a bikini and bystanders and gawkers be damned.
