Having a  foundation to help fund srs for Asians and having gone thru the surgery I thought I should give some unbiased views.....as much as possible, about what to expect and what to look for for your optimum results. I have read so many threads on this subject and I must admit some of my initial opinions were also fake news in that I expressed a biased view. So here we go:

The basic SRS surgery despite all the various surgeons marketing hype is basically the same. The aim to achieve aesthetics and orgasms reigns supreme.

Pre surgery

i) Laser and electrolysis of scrotal and penile skin pre surgery

I used to read that you needed laser or electrolisis on the penis and scrotal skin. I feel now that if you start electrolysis a year before surgery its actually not a bad idea. However, I am against laser for hair removal as its not permanent and makes the hair roots so small that they can be missed in the scrotal and penile skin scrape for hair roots resulting in hairs deep inside the vagina.

But electrolysis its not necessary on the scrotal or penile skin as the scraping process is very effective if diligently done, basically its the same process used by all surgeons. However, I do recommend that you remove the hair either by laser or electrolysis in the area between the anus and lower base of the penis. This area is not cut and there is a tendendicy for part of this skin to enter the vagina with dilation. Its may only go in 1/4 inch. This can also be done painlessly after surgery as the depth is so shallow. I know patients that have hair deep inside the vagina and this is caused by the technician being not diligent and laser work.

ii) Aesthetics

Different surgeons have different artistic intrepretation of what a labia minora and clitoris should be. Also remember that because you have to dilate some aesthetic changes need to be done a year after surgery when you can skip dilation for a couple of weeks while the corrective surgery stitching  is secure.

The size of the inner labia is where you will see some major differences and each top surgeon has their preference. Be sure to state your preference, or find one that has your views of the ideal vagina. Remember vaginas come in all shape and sizes.

iii) Choosing surgeons

Practice makes perfect, its not rocket science surgery. All the top surgeons are capable, yet they all have some bad outcomes. But its rare. There are around 8 great surgeons that service overseas clients in Thailand. Results all similar but prices vary quite a bit.

iv) Surgery

Best if done in a hospital and not in a clinic. Surgeons vary on how long you stay in hospital and when you should walk. My personal view is 5 to 7 days in hospital, walk after 48 hours. I like that they remove the catheder before checking out of hospital. Some surgeons require being bedridden.

Many  different problems occur but most of the problems are caused by swelling. They measure and cut very carefully but swelling distorts the measurements and may result in not an even labia, and necrosis. Most patients have little pain. My experience with my foundation and friends is around 20 pct have issues mentioned above. This does not include minor infections.

v) Post-op

Do not walk fast or excessivly for the first 3 weeks. This can tear the stitching at the vagina entrance and make dilation a nightmare. You have to dilate even if you have stitches torn. This can result in a persistant nagging pain that can be depressing. This nagging pain will go after 3 weeks.

vi) Dilation

Very important in the first few months. Its not going to be the sexual wonder many think. Its a daily chore and can be uncomfortable. Be persistant and it will be easier. Blood initally from micro tears when stretching the vagina is not a worry. After 4 months you should not have blood but it can vary.If you plan to have sex with a man, wait 6 months and be sure you are using the largest dilator. May look daunting at first but you will be able to use it. No rush, you can try the biggest dilator after 10 or 12 months.

I know some surgeons want you to dilate 3 times a day or more. My view is 2 time at 15 to 20 minutes will do. Be sure you keep the pressure so you dont lose depth. Also, use small circular movements with the dilator helps the depth and circumference.

vii) When can I sit and feel comfortable. Here it really varies but after 3 months you should be able to do your normal pre op activities.

I will talk about aesthetic changes and the options in another post. I just dont have enough information at this time.

I opted to not name surgeons as I am being unbiased. But you can PM me for my selection.

I guess mine was not so diligent. I went to Dr. Brassard. But, he suggested Nair to remove hairs and it works! :)

From what I've read of products like nair you need to test a small patch before you use it just in case you have a bad reaction to it. Some people do, and that's for external use. I can't imagine what a bad reaction would be like internally. Best be very cautious.

I've used nair in the genital area pre op. Found that it really stung on/around the scrotum. I too would be interested in knowing more.

Also warlockmaker- great post and great info. Thanks!

I use an empty applicator like that used for Canesten (yeast infections), fill it with a little Nair, insert applicator all the way inside vagina, push the Nair inside, let it sit there for around 5 minutes, hop in the shower and with shower handle/hands, clean it off, ensuring everything is gone! I did that once, like 4-5 weeks ago, I think and still no growth to speak of, my vagina is smooth inside, it's so great!

Adding to the above...

Once the Nair is deep inside, you can use your finger to spread the cream all over so all the hairs can "melt" away. :)

Thanks Kayxo, I will check with my doctors and will write again. I'm concerned that if not washed out it can burn the skin inside. But if workable it would be a blessing for those with this problem.

I did a bit of searching. Some people are really sensitive to this stuff, so test first.

In both cases you cites the cream was left on the skin for a far too long and excessive duration, so IMO the related experiences are not relevant compared to a normal usage of hair-removal creams.

I looked for what would be the interesting area and found several references with wild variations among them:

Which would be the most representative of the actual area to treat?

According to PAI instructions the first pic shows the area where hair must be removed.

I did the area that my surgeon said to, it came to about $2700 in fees & a total of 18 hours on the bench.

My insurance company keeps promising to reimburse but I've yet to see a check.

Well, it didn't burn my skin, everything is fine and I didn't let fear stop me. I went ahead and it was totally worthwhile.

I've always felt that one of the 'communities' quiet little secrets that doesn't see the light of day much is hair in the vagina. Oftentimes it's not much of a problem, but I have heard from a few women back in the days who were bothered by it. When it was my turn and even though my surgeon (Brassard) did the follicle scraping I wanted to leave nothing, absolutely nothing to chance. I figured why come out the other end with this beautiful vagina and 3 years later I have a hair problem that will be impossible to fix. I was going to spend $12k back then (2003 dollars) on my SRS what was an additional $1k for the electro if it gave me the peace of mind of not having a hair problem years down the road? I searched high and low until I found an electrologist who specialized in genital electro in preparation for SRS surgery on the outskirts of Boston. He knew exactly what bits went where during the surgery and concentrated on not just the pubes but the tiny hairs as well. It delayed my surgery for a good year almost year and a half, but I don't regret it one single bit because I feel it came out perfect.

With electrolysis and given time, this is one way for a high success rate, but you have to give it time. The scraping really works tho but if you have laser or incomplete electrolysis it makes the scraping a more difficult task, and increases risk of hair inside later.

Yes, hair in vagina needs to be openly discussed more. Generally, if you do electrolysis it must be completed not half done. I recommend electrolysis in all the areas close to the cut lines for srs where the skin is used but not scraped. This is really a good idea at the lower base of the penis and scrotum.

Not so bad as its easily removed, as can be accessed by laser or electrolysis. Started a new topic on hair inside vagina. I'm doing this to see what % have this issue? What solutions, if any? Already have a suggestion. If it is as stated from KayXo then its a real help for those with problems.

I have to disagree. I went to Dr. Brassard and although he scraped, there was plenty of hair regrowth post-op that I probably started noticing about 9-12 months after my op.

Quotebut if you have laser or incomplete electrolysis it makes the scraping a more difficult task, and increases risk of hair inside later.

As per Dr. Brassard, I didn't do any treatment prior to SRS as he said he would take care of it. But, in the document he hands patients, it is clearly stated that hairs may regrow post-op. In the end though, I'm happy I didn't do any electrolysis prior to SRS as Nair works fine right now. :)

It's really not. I found it was easy and very effective. :)
