OK, first of all, please don't hate me, but I've been losing weight at a really steady clip since I started hormones.  It's a good problem to have and I'm not complaining. However, it's not all roses either (here's the part where you may really hate me).  When I started hormones at the end of March, I wore a size 8 jeans comfortably.  Just last weekend, I went shopping and was super excited to fit into a size 6.  Well I ordered two pair of capri skinny jeans on Monday in size six.  They arrived today and when I put them on they fit but not as tightly as I'd have liked and I realize I could have fit into a size 4.  This is all good news except I'm wondering, if I start buying size 4 jeans, do I hang onto these 6's and 8's in case I go back up?  I'm guessing that as I continue on with hormones, there is going to come a point where the infamous weight gain is going to begin.

The questions I have are: 1. Did you experience any significant weight gain after starting hormones?  2. At what point did you notice it start?  3. Is there any of you out there who never saw weight gain as a side effect?

I lost 45 pounds.  Much of that was intentional though as I tried to lose it.  I do not think weight gain is inevitable as long as you eat properly.

I went from 165 to 135 in the first year of hrt. Went from a size 10 to a 4-6.

I seemed to have reached a point of equilibrium as my weight has been stable at 135 for several months now. (Month 11 of hrt).

Even though my weight has been stable the fit is still changing. Some cuts that I could only wear at a 6, I can now wear at a 4. I think this is due to the "fat redistribution " (actually just small gains/losses in typical female/male areas). So I'm seeing my stomach become flatter, allowing for the size 4 if the issue with fit was the waist.

However on the other hand, the skinny/tight cuts in size 4 are more problematic as the fat is increasing around thighs. In some jeans/shorts that are size 4 the thighs are a bit too tight to be considered comfortable.

My best suggestion, and what I'm doing is to keep multiple sizes for the foreseeable future.

One thing you can do is hang everything with the hook in the same direction. As you wear stuff, when you're hanging it back up, flip the hanger direction. This lets you track what clothes you're really using while also having everything at hand.

I use this to help get rid of stuff I never use. Every new year I go through all the clothes that still have their hanger in the original position. Good will etc. Flip everything left back to its original position, and repeat in a year.

So timeline 8 months of weight loss, with the past 3 hitting a balanced state of equilibrium- on the scale. Clothes are a completely different issue, definitely still in flux.

Cool, sounds like if I can keep my discipline I might be able to keep from gaining weight.  My goal is to get down to 150 (I started at 171, I'm at 158 now).  The hope I have is that way I have a little room to gain and then maybe trim again to help with the re-location of fat.  I'm probably over thinking it but 150 is a nice goal either way, should definitely help with an overall more feminine appearance.

I went from 160 to 125 in the first 9 months of HRT, but I changed to a much healthier diet at the same time (no more soda pop among other things)
HRT didn't increase my appetite until I switched to injections and even then I could control it. Now we've added progesterone I went up to 140 and still climbing, I want to eat everything in sight! I've had to put myself on a calorie counting diet.

On a low dose HRT, I LOST weight and my face looked sunken. As soon as my dose increased, I gained and looked healthier. Spiro can also lead to some weight loss as you lose water weight.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience
