Hi, guys - I'm sure I've read about Yelland on this site before, though nothing turned up when I typed it in the search box - Anyway - I'm seriously considering him as an option - I've heard he's good (and I like Brighton ;). I can't be hanging around for the poor old NHS to decide - in three years' time - that I'm ok for surgery - I damn well know I am. So my question is for guys who know the procedure - I'm guessing that he wants to see paperwork first, but what level of paperwork?

I've barely been on T two months (Seal & Lorimer privately, not NHS - still waiting for the GIC to even make a date), but I've been saving for top surgery for a while haha. That's another thing - I'm guessing around the £6000 mark is something to aim at?

Cheers in adv!

Hey,

Nice to have someone on the forum going to see Yelland too :) As you said his name doesn't come up on this forum and it would be nice to share our experiences.

I'm also going private for surgery and went private to Transhealth to be approved for T. I finally had my first appointment at Charring Cross recently after waiting a year but it's now 9 months for a second appointment and a further 11 month wait from date of referral instead of a 4 month wait if you go see Yelland privately.

Not sure what you mean by paperwork. I just had Dr Curtis write me a referral letter and a week later I got a letter with the date for my initial consultation (8th June) with no mention of having to bring any documentation with me.

To add it costs £220 for the initial consultation and £6662 which includes a preoperative appointment,  the surgery itself, a one night stay in the hospital and a post operative appointment.

Thanks, Elis, that's a real help!

Yeah, I really must contact Notts to see what the current wait-time is - I suspect much like CC. Yes, that's all I meant by paperwork - a referral letter sounds just the ticket; I'll write and see if Dr Lorimer will help out with that...

Four months doesn't sound nearly so bad -I might be /just/ failing to pass by then! (...as opposed to beyond dismally failing right now  :)!)

Thanks again and good luck at the consultation! (Oh, thought...! I'm nowhere near the South Coast - do they need to see someone in person for an initial talk, or can it be over the ol' blower, do you know?)

Glad to help :)

I heard Nottingham currently has a 24 month waiting time unfortunately but then again you can refer yourself to any GIC you want with slightly less waiting times.

Yeah couldn't believe it's only a 4 month wait now although the two month wait for my initial consultation appointment hasn't been much fun.

And yeah he needs to see you in person in order to look at your chest to know which procedure to recommend you.

I heard he was moving from Brighton to Devon. Anyone know when?

Really? Hadn't anything about that; even on his website.

GIC supervising doctor mentioned it to me, though he doesn't know when. I guess these are long-term plans, I couldn't find any other information on it either.

Hi again!

Still going for Yelland and had my initial consultation in June. I wrote a post about my experience if you can find it which you may find helpful :). Annoyingly it's going to be a 5 month wait since time of referral but still better than the NHS  ;D

So have you got an initial consultation date yet or still saving up your money?
