Does anybody know what the procedure is for changing my name and gender marker in my Florida drivers license. I'm not a US citizen and my passport has still my old name, gender and picture in it because Switzerland does not allow gender marker change without surgery...

So, is there a way for me to change my Florida drivers license even though my Swiss passport shows my male name?

I could not find anything online about that specific problem.

Thanks a lot
Big hugs

You need a letter from your doctor.

You can file for name change in USA without changing your name on you Switzerland papers. I did it on arrival (a few months after), and my us papers have my old name, while all visas and adjustment of statuses and green card were processed in my 'us name'. You'll have to submit a name change paperwork to uscis and all previously used names for the rest of your life (to other government agencies), but not too often.

Switzerland won't recognize your name change, but that's another story.

Jessica,

Changing your name on your drivers licence is very easy. Two things are needed:

1. A letter from your doctor.

2. A court order.

I recently changed my name in Miami-Dade county. The county has a family court that handles divorce, paternity and name changes. The court website in your county should have information available to do this without a lawyer. Total cost is about $ 465.

I had 15 certified copies made. So far, most agencies just scan the certified copy and give it back to you. If you have to mail the certified copy to some agency, do not expect to see it again. I think maybe 5 copies would be sufficient. Just keep the case number and you can get more copies if you need them.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this further or have difficulties.
