Hello Ladies,

Im about to have my blood work and some lab tests done in few days. However, I am concern that my result wont be as accurate as before. I have legally changed my documents to female gender and this hospital that I am going to have my blood work with saved my records as female. I am worried about two major things

1. Affect the accuracy of my blood work
2. Being able to get clocked

The tests I am having are the following:

1. chest xray (I have no implants)
2. HIV test (im concerned about the accuracy of this wether the test they do is different between genders)
3. TSH
4. Sugar Level
5. E and T level
6. Urinalysis (for STD checking as well).

Please enlighten me my fellow sisters

The gender they test you as only changes the base line description on the tests but not the results. You doctors will know what the limits should be if the wrong base line numbers are on the report. Most of the numbers don't change with gender though the testosterone and estradiol numbers will.

As for being clocked, they are medical people and if they have a problem with it, they are the ones who need to deal with it. If your doctor normally refers transgender patients to that lab, by now they should know what to expect and should even gender you correctly.

The tests I am having are the following:

1. chest xray (I have no implants)

Gender will have no influence on this test.

Quote2. HIV test (im concerned about the accuracy of this wether the test they do is different between genders)

Gender will have no influence on this test. There is no difference in how the genders are tested.

Quote3. TSH

Gender will have no influence on this test. There is no difference in how the genders are tested. The only difference will be the listed "reference ranges", males and females often having different levels of things.

Quote4. Sugar Level

Gender will have no influence on this test. There is no difference in how the genders are tested.

Quote5. E and T level

Gender will have no influence on this test. There is no difference in how the genders are tested, again there is a difference in "reference ranges".

Quote6. Urinalysis (for STD checking as well).

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would be done different depending in gender, but a pregnancy test may throw up some interesting results.

In short, no, the discrepancy in gender will not not have any effect on the accuracy of your results.
