Hi there. I'm a few months into HRT, about 6 months until name change and coming out at work (which will start full-time clock). I'm almost 43 and have job history that is known in my industry. How do you all deal with reference checks for employment? Where I work now will be female name and such, but did you contact hr at old employers to have them change their records? What about degrees, awards, certifications?
Did you just start over?

You can change your name on degrees and certifications. As far as reference check, I wouldn't bother any more than a lady changing her last name bothers calling her previous jobs (i.e. never). I know I changed my last name and I didn't bother to notify my employers of the past... I say I worked here or there, and it's good enough

This last round of job searches/offers/negotiations required thorough career validation. This industry is already male dominated, i figure tg would throw me right out of the running

I'm currently self employed or don't usually require references for jobs.

If I did have to I guess it'd be easier to just get someone I know as a character reference since it's been so long since previous employers they've probably forgotten who I am.

I'm going through a similar situation. Sometimes it feels like I'm hiding a criminal record. It's so hard to know if one should be open or just continue to hide. I don't know the answer. I may need to sacrifice my appearance to get certain jobs. I'm not happy about that. My Mom says cut may hair. I don't want to do that. I had a good interview with my long hair, hope I get the job. I'm also experimenting with wigs if I have to cut it. As far as coming out to a company as TG? I live in redneck central Florida .. very difficult.
