Hi Quinn, welcome to Susan's!
So glad you joined, I've found this place awesome. I'll try to convince you, actually you do know more than one other transgender person - you will get to know quite a few here. I sure have.
I am MTF, slightly different age (just 3 decades) and we even live in the same country! The rumor is it rains more here in Seattle and I suppose that's true. No worries, I use waterproof makeup. Hair style hint: around here it's not called bangs, those are rain gutters.
I think makeup artistry is indeed art. I usually apply a minimal amount (my current avatar photo is typical) but I learned makeup from a professional last year and learned correct contouring etc. for occasions when I want more. I'll update my profile photo after HRT has time to kick in. A close friend initially showed me the basics but I seemed to smear stuff on like a six year old finger painting while jumping up and down. So I hired a makeup artist to come over a few times and show me the art and science behind makeup - her portfolio included the Seattle Seahawks cheerleaders. (If anyone local wants a referral let me know). Although hiring a makeup artist might sound expensive I saved money learning the correct way to apply, and understanding what to buy without any sales pressure. If you're gonna do something, might as well do it right. Same reason I joined Susan's.
It's great you have a friend point you to the initial path and guidance. Some of the best advice and interaction I've had here is with individuals all over the gender spectrum as the underlying goal is the same. Individuals identifying and seeking their best and most rewarding future, and then doing it.
We have some information for all new members and I'll add it here for you. These are things to help speed up your initial navigation and as a reference to help keep everything running well.
