just wanted to share this article here, and ask a few questions too...
https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-takes-decisive-action-ensure-insurance-coverage-transgender-and-genderI'll admit that I don't know much about health insurance, and there's a lot of this article that I don't fully understand. it says he's asking companies to take more steps and investigate before denying a claim, so that means they can still deny claims? I'm worried because I'm on a private excellus plan through my union, and it says in our plan that they don't cover anything related to changing genders (which is BS, that should be illegal, but apparently they can get away with it in private plans). So far they covered my therapist, but I did get her to leave Gender Dysphoria off of the statement. they covered my first bloodwork and my first 2 visits with the gender doctor. they covered my spiro and estradiol when I first got the prescriptions, but last weekend I went for refills and the pharmacy said that my insurance contacted them saying that they won't pay for refills now, so with these new protections does this mean that they have to pay for it? I'm more worried about them not covering my upcoming blood tests and doctors visit, because those are expensive. I got lucky before by going under the radar, but now I'm wondering if I've been red flagged and they are going to start denying me.
