SF and NYC are both expensive for the same reason - people want to live there, and find it worth it. Though it costs me much more to live in SF than where I used to live, its worth every penny. And, in SF, like NYC, the problem of parking is not our concern. We don't own cars at near the national level, and our public transportation is awesome - or at least, existent. I have not owned a car since I moved here, and have little to no need for one. Walking and using a bike - aside from the political considerations - is much better for your health, life, and figure.
