First time in USA

I was in New York 16-23.11 with my friends and we have a lot of fun.
Wow.. I mean wow.. I felt more home in Manhattan than I feel in Helsinki

Better be careful there.  After all, more round-trip plane tickets are turned in for a partial refund in NYC than any other US location, with San Francisco being second.  People seem to get there and decide not to leave. 

Love it, or hate it, or anyplace inbetween, there is no place in the world like New York.

New York can be great fun, if you can afford it

I live so close that I take it for granted and I hardly make it into the city once a year.  I'm about a 90 minute train ride from home to the middle of Manhattan, just far enough that it isn't really convenient to get to, but close enough that I really have no excuse to not go more often...

The best part of NYC is you can always find something to do, the worst part is you can never do it all.  Especially around the holidays, there's so much to see!

I hate being stuck out in the suburbs, I'm so much more at home in the middle of a big city.  Someday...

I was there many years ago.  1992 or 93 if I remember correctly.  Even then it was a very expensive place to live and public parking, OMG, totally outrageous to say the least, more so than San Francisco.  So yes, please be careful and good luck!

SF and NYC are both expensive for the same reason - people want to live there, and find it worth it.  Though it costs me much more to live in SF than where I used to live, its worth every penny.  And, in SF, like NYC, the problem of parking is not our concern.  We don't own cars at near the national level, and our public transportation is awesome - or at least, existent.  I have not owned a car since I moved here, and have little to no need for one.  Walking and using a bike - aside from the political considerations - is much better for your health, life, and figure.

I grew up in NYC and the public transportation is the worst experience in my life, dirty, dangerous, sicking, hot, cold and smelly. Worst of all are the gross people and crime. I had several attempts made to pick my pocket and those crowded cars someone is always trying to cop a feel. Things are too plentiful for anyone to care.

I grew up in NYC too, in Queens, and moved away almost 30 years ago.  The buses were nicer than the subways, imo.

It IS a great place to visit and I enjoy going back.  My mom lives in Connecticut, an hour's train ride from the city so I get down there a couple times a year.

I don't really miss living there though although I do wish I were nearer to the ocean where I am now.

Ridgewood is also a German neighborhood on the border between Brooklyn and Queens.
