First I told my brother who was surprised. I haven't spoken to him about it since so I don't know his thoughts but at least I came out to him.

Next, I told mom. She was ok about it. It's my life and so on. I am not sure if she remembers because she keeps calling me her son but I just don't feel like correcting her.

My younger brother was last who took it best but still calls me his bro. I prefer sis but sod it. It could have been worse.

The rest of the family will have to wait until it's obvious.

You're doing great!

I figure it will take time for people who have known me a long time to change pronouns and pick up my new name.
Also as I transition more visually over time (HRT) that will help.  I bet you might also find that's the case.

Congratulations! :D

I came out to my parents a few weeks ago. They're very supportive but they call me their son still, preferring to use he/him/his when referring to me. I'd been biting my lip but this weekend my mother asked me what I wanted to be called. I think they're trying as hard as they can :)

Like Kendra said I feel like it'll take at least until they start seeing visual cues to be able to call me their daughter, and I'm OK with that. I'd been their "son" for 28 years, it's bound to cause some emotional dissonance for them.

I think time will help :)
"For anyone who is considering a transition - prepare yourself, you're in for a bumpy but thoroughly enjoyable ride. Buckle up and make the most of it! Be brave, be proud and be true to you. Set yourself free - I promise it will be worth it. And for anyone out there who knows somebody who is transitioning... tell them how wonderful they are for doing it!" - Rhyannon Styles.
