19Kairi

Hi, my name is Kairi. I'm 19 years old and unsure of what the MTF transition process ensues. I came out as gay (born a guy seeking other guys) a few years ago, but I feel like I might be a woman altogether. Sometimes, I don't feel like either a woman or a man, though.

Anyways, nice meeting you all :)

 Hi Kairi,

I'm Laurie, MtF and a lot older than you but that didn't stop me from wondering who and what I am. I thought I had it figured out back in December when I started HRT but just the other day during a session with my gender therapist I told him I didn't know anymore.. Speaking of gender therapists, that is where I suggest you start looking for those answers. They can be quite helpful.
Oh btw,   Hey,  Welcome To Susan's Place! Come on in and take a good look around.  Perhaps I can even get you to tell us a little bit more about yourself so we can get to know you a little better and greet you properly.

Also I'll add some links and information below that can help you get more out of our site. Please take time to become familiar with them especially the RED one as we are always getting questions that are answered there.

MtF transition involves therapy and some testing by a gender therapist. Then you begin a testosterone blocker and estrogen. If you have facial and body hair you will need hair removal. Depending on what your voice sounds like you might need voice therapy or even vocal cord surgery. If you have a noticeable Adam's apple you will need surgery to shave it down. Depending on your facial features and how well they respond to hrt you might need FFS down the road. And depending on how much breast development you get from hrt you might also need BA. The last step is the actual SRS itself.

There is also the matter of legally changing your name and then all your ID,  learning to use makeup, buying female clothes and all the other daily things women have to do.  If you decide transition is right for you you need to at least start testosterone blockers ASAP. The earlier you stop the effects of testosterone the better the results from estrogen will be.

I know transition might seem overwhelming from what I wrote but I wanted to give you a realistic idea of what's involved. You don't do everything at once. It's more like one step at a time so don't get overwhelmed. Also you might not need all the stuff I have mentioned.  I didn't need hair removal or voice training and I haven't had any facial surgery. It varies person to person exactly what procedures you need.

I also did the gay guy dating thing before transition. I never considered myself gay but gay guys were the only guys I had available and I was a horny 16 year old. Now I have a straight boyfriend and it's feels much more normal and satisfying for me than dating a gay guy ever was. That might also be the case with you. Just because you like guys that doesn't mean you're gay.

The first step you need to take is talking to a gender therapist.  I know it sounds cliché to say that but it's really helpful. They understand gender issues and can help you understand your feelings. Plus, if you do transition you need a letter from a gender therapist to start hrt.

Hello Kairi!  Welcome to Susan's.

I am MtF and was totally unsure about myself for quite a long time.  I finally went to a gender therapist and in hindsight wish I had years earlier.  My overall advice is don't feel pressured to answer everything at once or change anything unless you truly want to.  Go get the best information you can and make good decisions for your future - and you get to define your future and who you are.

During the time when I wasn't certain about transition but knew what I didn't want, I had all my facial hair permanently removed - one of the best decisions I ever made.  So when I decided to start HRT I was already pretty much done with something that takes a lot more time than surgery or any of the other things I am looking at.

Glad you are here, see you around!
