You can post a picture of yourself as your avatar, In one of the photo threads, or in a new thread of your own.

First you need to load it on a web photo site like IMGUR.com. Upload the picture and copy the url that it is assigned. Now go to your post and insert <IMG> Paste Url <IMG\> In the body of the comment. This should work.
To load an avitar download a picture to your computer identify it as a .PNG file and then on the profile page select modify profile At the top you will see where you can load it  Send me a PM if you can't get it.
