My radio-oncology review

It is the season to be jolly.... well reviewed.

I had my radio-oncology review today, he is a lovely guy who was a little hesitant at first all that time ago when he met his first TG woman with hypo laryngeal cancer who had refused surgery. I had some quiet words and we have become good friends.
He put me through 9 weeks of daily radiotherapy and after 6 weeks said, "I've got a bed in the oncology ward with your name on it and it is time to get into it". After 7 weeks he asked if I thought I was strong enough to continue. I just looked at him and he said "OK, I'll never ask that again".

When it all failed and I had to have surgery anyway he gave me a hug.

Today it was: lovely to see you and you look great. He stared rather intently at the Father Christmas character that I had placed over the hole in my neck. 'Very festive and it goes well when you glow in the dark' (a seasonal joke from a radio-oncologist!).

The good news is that I am recovering well, oedema and tissue damage is still extensive but may fade some, the burn scars are heavy and are unlikely to diminish. Thyroid is baked and gone, pituitary is waving a white flag and needs help. Upper lobes of the lungs are radiation damaged and will not recover.

General health is good and my attitude is awesome (that is my opinion)

So next stop is the chemotherapy review and I'll be saying hello to the endocrinology unit in the near future.

 Hi Cindy,

  Even with all the damage incurred the report sounds as good as it could be considering all that you have been through. Fortunate I was saved all of that radiation and chemo damage thank to mine being kidney cancer. I my case they kept taking parts out to sell on ebay to settle my bills until they could cut out any more I I let they do a little bit of lab experimenting on me for about 5 weeks to see how the body reacts to toxic substances fed almost directly into my heart to make sure it circulated all through the body. I swear it seemed like they were slowly poisoning me to death. Well it that was there plan I fooled them by surviving well beyond their expectations. Hell I ready for round four already. I'm glad that you too have come through your personal ordeals as good as you have. I must say that attitude of yours is far superior to my own lately. Oh we have one thing in common too though the circumstances are a bit different. My upper lobes of my lungs are shot too.  It seem my 45 years of smoking has caught up with them as they are affected with severe emphysema. Oh well what's a little shortness of breath at 65 huh? Have to expect some damage from all that abuse right?
  Again glad it was a good review and I'm sure your next ones well be also. You are too cantankerous for them not to be.
