The story line has some nice turns. The humor is pretty sweet too. It was so cute when Chewy cooked that bird, prepared to eat it, and the one bird kept staring at him with those big puppy dog eyes. Other than that, I don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it yet.

Spoiler alert!!!

I like that the females were shown to be the ones that had ideas that worked for the good of all. Whereas domineering males (Po) tried to force their nature to fight instead of trusting their commander, who was a woman.  There were a number of heroic women that will return in future episodes and one brave one will not.  The big question is why was Leia not allowed to perish???
Also what will Rey do with the Jedi text she smuggled out of the tree on the island Luke was on?

5/10. There were parts of the story that could have been cut and some.parts that felt missing. Ill upgrade to 6/10 Just for the final fantasy chocobo racing and me doing that music in my head at the time.

Rouge one was far more superior than last jedi with emotional connections to the chars, the funny outlook of last jedi just shows how much disney has had its effect on the franchise, do i regret seeing it... no but would i have rarther seen jumanji where people litterly body swap... hell yeah

And dont get me started why leah didnt die and could fly in space and no time was given to its a trap fish guy when he also died in that part

It's got flaws, mostly in the pacing and in some of the events (Canto Bite) and with some of the things the characters do (Rose) which seem to detract from the momentum of the scenes and the plot, but overall it was a fairly enjoyable movie with plenty of interesting character moments.

I don't compare these prequels to the experience of the OT since those days and that style of film-making seems gone for good, and otherwise just leads to frustration.

But it has more to chew on character wise than Rogue One or any of the Prequels, and that's something to be encouraged.

I was thinking about Kyle Ren.  His is a real coward.  He had to kill anyone that held authority over him by close contact surprise attack on an unsuspecting person.  He did that to his dad and then Snoke.

How else would anyone manage to kill Snoke except by taking him unawares.

Han Solo was unsuspecting on that bridge? Han's not an idiot. He knew he was likely going to die if he went out onto it.

Roll

Given the nature of the thread, I'm going to be a little spoilery, so: ((SPOILERS BELOW))

I enjoyed it as a movie on its own merits, but I didn't like it at all as a Star Wars movie. Super-leia made me cringe. Unless the plot line is redeemed in episode 9, the Snoke death was just just entirely anti-climatic. So the first order is now in the hands of an whiny brat and the galaxy's most bumbling general. Not exactly a threat for the future, Kylo Ren may be powerful be he can't take on the galaxy single handed. Nerd Rant Ahoy! What I want is for Snoke to simply have been a vanguard, a precursor for galactic invasion from the outer reaches of space akin to the story line for The Old Republic. Otherwise, he's a worthless, contrived character that meant nothing, and leaves more questions than answers (supposedly he was just hanging around in the days of the Empire... soooo, Palpatine just sort of didn't notice? Lots of issues here...). Anywho, back to the movie... Then despite his retraction, I am 100% in agreement with Mark Hamill's statements about Luke. It just... it just wasn't him. And the Yoda scene was also just bad to me. Don't get me wrong, I love Yoda. But it was completely unnecessary, and solely to tug on nostalgia. Unfortunately, it wasn't a harmless trip down memory lane, as it broke the flow of the movie and the blending of the practical effects puppet with the movie's modern CG just looked bad to me. Which is weird, because there are plenty of movies that meld the two just fine, and it's Star Wars that botches it? And I'll admit it now: I've always been a Boba Fett lover. It's a cliche, but I don't care. He's awesome. ;D So now with Phasma, a character I was drawn to since the early promotional stuff for 7, it's just Fett all over. Interesting and unique villain in a movie that needed them badly (the original trilogy could at least be said not to have needed another villain), and yet... oops, fell to her death (again). So either it's just an unceremonious death, or they will explain it away off screen again like with episode 7. Either option is just stupid.

Not that I hated everything, I loved the style of humor, Chewbacca scenes just made me smile (the only classic character done right excluding the droids who may as well have just been extras... which come to think of it, this movie really killed the whole deal with R2-D2 being the perpetual witness), Benicio Del Toro's character was great (winner: best villain not just dumped in a pit), and I think Kylo Ren does the angst routine better than prequel Anakin did (partially because it wasn't retroactively tarnishing a character like original trilogy Vader, but also in general).

The biggest disappointment? No Lando Calrissian. ... Okay, seriously, I'm joking but sort of only half joking. How perfect would he have been just randomly at the casino? :D

*sigh*... It's just not the movie I was hoping it to be. I vastly preferred Rogue One (the final Vader scene... Jesus, so good).

If Kylo was anything like his grandfather he would have picked Snoke up and tossed into a void.
Han is another case of male stupidity.  But he was his father.

Kylo

Kylo isn't like his grandfather. That's the whole point of his character. Snoke is shown to be ridiculously powerful in the force as he throws Rey about like a doll, knows what's going on in people's minds and is guarded by several guards. You tell me how easy it would be to kill him if he wasn't distracted by someone else. Even Vader was only able to chuck Palpatine into a void when he was distracted by torturing Luke.

Male stupidity? Okay then.

So the trope of someone sacrificing themselves to try to do the right thing and fix their past mistakes went right by you.

By this rationale, Rey was exhibiting some monumental "female stupidity" by posting herself to Kylo's ship in TLJ to try to 'change him', wasn't she?

Although I would prefer we leave gendered insults out of established fictional and logical motifs that can apply to anyone, lol
