I hope this is the right forum, but my waist length is 34", so what would my hip length be in terms of sizing for women's clothing?

In other words, what size should I get with respect to the hip length?

I ask because I need to know in order to buy a piece of clothing.

The problem is that female bodies are proportioned differently than male bodies.  And there is a lot of individual variation, so there is no way to tell what your hip size is from your waist size.  Your best bet is to actually measure your hip size.

Sizing of women's clothing has a very large random component to it.  The only sure way to see if a garment will fit is to try it on.  I usually take a size 10, but sometimes I will fit an 8 or a 12, depending on the individual garment.

Yeah, unfortunately there isn't a hard and fast rule for figuring size. It's possible that your "size" can vary wildly, just depending on the brand and the cut of the garment.

Your best bet - buy from a place with a liberal return policy.

Great advice above... sizing is not a static thing... you sort of need to jump into the game and try things out and learn from that experience. And, guess what? It's the same for ciswomen though the nature of the dilemmas may not match exactly all the time... there's still the notion that one size does not always work well... it depends on who makes it, what it is, and all that.

I started closeted with online purchases and wasted a lot of money that way but we all have our little stories like that. It does not mean that isn't a bad avenue... I learned a lot from the experiences.

The following threads offer some insight into my experiences with sizing and the posts from others offer some great tips...

You might also try using the forum's Search feature to enter the clothing your considering... like "bra sizing" or use a search engine with "site:susans.org bra sizing" or  "site:susans.org hip size dress" and try other things too like plural hips sizes dresses etc to ensure you pick up all the results. From the time I was a lurker of this forum to joining, both web and forum search have been my friends.

Best of luck finding that winning garment!
